For the past three years, I have had an amazing opportunity to study in Boston. It truly is one of America' finest cities. It is College Town, USA. I will never regret the decision to move here for college. Ever.
Last night, we all saw our Flyers' season come to an end. We stayed with them all year as we watched them triumph, fall, and give us all heart attacks. I just want to reflect on the season that was as I begin to count down the days till next season. When it was determined that the Flyers would play the Bruins, I was both excited and worried. I wear my Flyers gear with pride up here and never am ashamed or upset to take the heat from the Bruins fans. Quite frankly thats because anything they say is nowhere near as terrible as what they would get in Philly. But again, I was nervous because I knew this sweep could happen. I knew they would come out fighting and clawing to erase last year from their minds. But they never will. The 2010 Flyers will go down in history and the Boston Bruins will forever be on the wrong side of that history.
But I am not going to focus on the negative. The Flyers fought. They may not have played their best, they may have been struggling through injuries, but we cannot be upset. We saw James van Reimsdyk establish himself as a beast. We saw players step up when they were needed, and we saw a team stand up and try to win despite all that happened.
Does this loss suck? Yes, what kind of idiot would think it doesn't? But I know I will not let this loss keep my hopes down about this team. I still believe that we are a team destined to win. We are so close. Players are stepping up and getting better. We might not be the same team without Chris Pronger, but we can be successful. I cannot wait for next season. I cannot wait to see if JVR continues his dominance. I cannot wait to see if we will ever not have a goalie issue in Philadelphia. I was down about the team last night, but you know what? College house parties are the best way to console yourself.
So, we lost. Alright. Stick tap to the Bruins on a hell of a series. Stick tap to American Tim Thomas on playing out of his freaking mind all year. Stick tap to the Flyers. Stick tap to everyone here. It has been a ride I won't soon forget, no matter how much crap I will have to take over the next few weeks up here in Boston.
Till next year.
