Most Hated Teams:
1. Penguins(Because their fans are front runners)
2. Devils (Because if they had fans, they would be front runners)
3. Canadiens(Because they have fans, who aren’t front runners, but I dislike them anyway)

1. Penguins
2. Rangers
3. Devils
The order shifts from time to time, and the Penguins are actually a more recent addition to the top three (once my grudge against the Red Wings over the ’97 Finals finally started to fade), but the Rangers and Devils have always been up there.
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
And please please please please let today be the day that Bryzgalov announces on Twitter that the Flyers can’t match his salary demands, and he’s trying free agency. Then we can deal with Washington for the rights to Varlamov at the draft, and have a fantastic one-two Russian goalie tandem. (Varlamov – 30 wins in 59 games, 0.917%SV, 2.39GAA; Bobrovsky – 28 wins in 54 games, 0.915%SV, 2.59GAA … for comparison Bryzgalov has 156 wins in 326 games, a 0.916%SV, and 2.53GAA). Oh, and did I mention that it would cost about $3.5m less than signing Bryzgalov, money that could FINALLY be spent on getting some wingers?!?

I will offer you a rant that played in my head this morning:
So I’m travelling southbound on 95, and the time is quarter of 7, and I hit the normal traffic. It’s ok, I’ve accepted my fate in the Northeast Philly parking lot. But it’s a different day, because speed usually picks up after you pass the Girard Ave exit. But no, not today. We are bumper to bump, all of the way to Callowhill. I tell myself, this person better be fucking dead to cause a 2 laner during rush hour on this interstate highway. I finally pass the accident, and low and behold, there was a car accident, and a tow truck ready to perform it’s job. But the kicker was, the accident was on the northbound side of the highway, and a cop just decided to park his cruiser on the southbound side of the highway, out of what I could only think is sheer laziness.
tl;dr: why the fuck would you obstruct the side of the highway with significantly worse rush hour traffic than the other side? Why not just park behind the accident on the northbound side of the highway. Did someone miss the fucking critical thinking skills competition at the academy this year?

I suggest taking a train. I truly enjoy cruising past all the stopped traffic on 95 every morning in my 75-mph SEPTA ride, as I read or nap.

As long as you can deal with Point A-prime to Point B, the transit options are pretty damn good. I drive to the station in the morning, hop the train (which runs every 20 minutes) and get to my office in 40 minutes. I don’t need a car all day, and on the rare occasions I need to go somewhere there’s all the bus/el/subway options in town. Then I hop the train home in the evening, pick up the car, and run my errands from there. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised at the convenience and cost savings.
And no, I don’t work for SEPTA.

I’ve been riding SEPTA since 5th grade (to school for 12 years, to work thereafter). As long as you accept that ‘shit happens’ and also realize that it happens far less than traffic accidents or other foulups on the road, it works great. And the Regional Rail lines are far more civilized than the bus.
But hey – if you’re happy paying $4 a gallon to sit in traffic getting 0 mpg, be my guest.

by CoburnsCuddleBuddy on Jun 22, 2011 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions
Alright – 21 mpg. Let’s say you live about as far away from downtown as I do (15 miles, near Woodhaven Road). And let’s assume you get that mileage sitting in 95 traffic, not all your mixed-use. And let’s further say that you have no car payment, and minimum insurance coverage. So you spend $2.64 on gas alone – each way, each day. That’s $5.29 in gas each and every day. Then we say your car insurance is $500 a year (you must live outside the city), so that’s $1.37 a day. Typical maintenance, how about 4 oil changes a year and a set of filters and belts? Averages out to $0.80 a day (and that doesn’t include tires or something actually breaking). You’ve now spent about $7.50 a day just to get to work and back … and you’ve also wasted TWO HOURS behind the wheel, and I haven’t even asked what you pay for parking (which is $18 a day near my office). My SEPTA pass costs less than $5 a day, and I can sleep or read or just laugh at the silly people in traffic for my two hours (or less, usually) to get to and from work.
Sorry – there is NO way that driving into town makes ANY sense. Not to mention the pollution and waste …

Is this the 2011 Summer of Cap Hell you have been predicting since the Pronger trade?
The Flyers could potential add another 5+ million dollar UFA. This is not cap hell this is a roster decision. They are choosing to add Brzy over current players on the roster. They are not unloading players in Salary Dumps for any other reason the the Flyers decided to add Brzy. This is not salary cap hell this is a roster decision not one that I agree with but this is not cap hell.
You don’t add a 5-7 million dollar UFA probably the highest or second highest UFA signing of the offseason while in cap hell.
As I predicted last summer Grioux and Carter both signed reasonable fair market contracts and the salary cap more than I even thought almost 5 million dollars. Like I said anything can happen.
Not you in particular Geoff but many people would have traded Carter last summer and not have traded for Meszaros in preparation for this offseason where we would be forced to pay Carter 6 – 7 million per, Giroux another 5 million per all with a salary cap that would be decreasing do the poor economy.

The Flyers have 18 players paid for $59 million. They need 4 players with $5 million. They are choosing to dump valuable assets in order to overpay other assets. Just because they’re choosing to spend money in one area doesn’t mean they aren’t in cap hell.
They have more contracts and less space than any one in the NHL, and you’re saying everything is honky-doory?

Like Kevin Garnet, anything’s possible!!!!!!
Teaching Travis how to Dougie since 2011.
Geoff has Boosh, Mike's got Powe, Nodl is all mine!
From the start of last season they added Versteeg and now potentially Brzy that is over 8 million dollars in new contracts in addition to the moves they last summer that many said they shouldn’t have because the this summers cap hell. If they didn’t add Brzy and Versteeg we wouldn’t be in this situation.
They could easily dress the exact same starting roster as last season this season within the salary cap. When we added Meszaros at 4 million nobody thought this would be possible due to all those things, Carters demands Giroux demands, cap potential decreasing blah blah blah…
If many people had their way like I said the Flyers would have traded Carter last offseason and never added Meszaros to prepare for the gloom and doom and the cap hell of Summer 2011.
The fact is the Flyers potentially added 8million dollars in additional salary beyond the Meszaros acquisition. Nobody thought that would be possible and the Homer would be cutting back players from the opening day roster not adding.
I am not saying everything is honky-doory I am just saying this is not the cap hell this is roster decisions. The roster decisions they did last offseason or previous seasons DID NOT put them in cap hell it is decisions that made since the deadline that did it. Adding Versteeg and Brzy. This is nowhere close the Blackhawks cap hell of last year where they lost many players from their 2011 opening day roster.
They could easily dress the exact same starting roster as last season this season within the salary cap.
Is that so? I disagree.
The fact is the Flyers potentially added 8million dollars in additional salary beyond the Meszaros acquisition. Nobody thought that would be possible and the Homer would be cutting back players from the opening day roster not adding.
After shedding how much? How much, Chris? They aren’t just adding $8 million since they don’t have $8 million in cap space. How did they acquire Versteeg? By actually banking cap space for once! They didn’t just add $3 million, they added $1.5 million.

I think by “starting” he meant “opening day”, not “non-scratches”. Or at least I’ll offer him that defense to use against you, whether he meant it or not.
That’s a good defense. Remember, I’m captain literal so I missed that alternate definition.
The rebuttal: He’s missing Boucher + Walker + Lappy, since none of those players were on LTIR at the start of the season. There’s nearly $4 million he’s leaving out.

I’m honestly surprised Sather still has a job.

I’d be surprised if Dolan could name the GM of the Rangers.

I find that strangely encouraging. Because it hopefully means Bryzgalov is asking simply WAY too much, and Snider’s directive or not there’s no way in hell they can sign him. And then we can move on, get a serviceable player to split the season with Bob (or even shoot higher and land Harding or Varlamov) and get on with completing the forward 9.
Maybe it should read "reformedpenguinsfan" since I have retired my Lemeiux jersey ... and purchased an Orange and Black Pronger jersey.

Snider doesn’t seem worried, no matter the price. “I’m confident that we’ll be able to work something out,” Snider said. “Look, if you don’t spend the money, you ain’t going to get him. It’s really that simple.”
I dunno, Snider seems ready to field a team of Mites on Ice in front of Bryz so we can fit him under the cap.

I’m banking on the “ain’t gonna get him” part.

But the whole sentence tells me he is willing to spend the money.

HE (Snider) may be, but all indications are that Holmgren is NOT on board. Saw a quote somewhere that said Homer sees the two camps as quite a ways apart. That, my friends, is good news.

Do not want.

"We didn't do it the easy way. We took the hard way to do it. But we are part of history now."
Anything over $5 – 5.5 is to much, he is unproven in playoffs. If it boils down to losing Carter because off salary. Keep moving along, I’d rather ride with Bob and a capable backup.

I dunno, This year looks pretty good to me.
In other news, almost half that list consists of Anaheim goalies.
On the Mike Weber bandwagon!
Sabres took the scenic route, but they still MADE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!1
