Man I really hope Lavvy gets fired

Is this just a gentle reminder of your distaste for the head coach, or did something in today’s links make that feeling bubble to the surface again for you?
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

it’s something I felt for awhile. today’s revelations didn’t help either. And oh yeah, Lavvy ain’t Herb Brooks, so the whole Dry Island thing is a joke in my opinion

Also how Lavy handled the last part of the season with some questionable decisions and how in many ways the goalie issue was mostly a Lavy issue. Not sure if I am on the fire Lavy camp yet, but he should be on a short leash….

If they fire Lavy, who would be an interim head coach though?

Yeah I already knew how you felt about Laviolette, I was just curious about what prompted the posting.
I feel the Dry Island thing was a tactic. While Laviolette might not be Herb Brooks, I think he was trying to borrow a page from his book.

Regarding DSOD, knowing full well this comment may or may not be killing the hopes of many…
1. How could we even sign him since we’re at 50 contracts?
2. Even if we could sign him, how little sense does it make to bring him in now, when we’ve got a top 5 that’s just about set, a traffic cone signed to a two-year 35+ contract, a fairly established #7 in Oskars, and at least two guys in the minors (Gus and Marshall) that we can probably bring up if need be? Unless they just want him in Adirondack again, and I feel like he would have more interest to go elsewhere.
3. Shingles? Yeesh. What a guy.
It’d be cool but it doesn’t seem viable.

If i learned one thing about the 50 contract limit, its that teams can find ways around it easily.
On the Mike Weber bandwagon!
I hate Christian Ehrhoff because he should have been Tomas Kaberle.
Are there? It was mentioned when we signed Kalinski and Chihuahua the goalie, but I thought that rule was the one that, per DragonGirl, didn’t have many loopholes:
Now, we all know that there are numerous loopholes in the CBA, and Homer knows them well. But in the case of exceeding the 50-man contract limit, there’s only one: the Slide Rule.
I know we’re already sliding Noebels, and while I wouldn’t think there’s a limit to the number of guys you can slide, if that’s the only way we can get around it we might be in trouble.
Don’t get me wrong here, though, I’d love to be, well…wrong.

Right now, he can only be signed to an AHL-only contract, which doesn’t permit him to play in the NHL. But we don’t know if they’re currently shopping some people, but if they are, a trade could free up a spot or two.
Warning: Arguing the NHL CBA with me could be hazardous to your mental health. Proceed at your own risk.

on #2: I think if he was signed then if Lijia or Bartulis went down he would be the first call up.
The 50 contracts thing is a bitch, isn’t it?
as for 1) We’re shopping Bob for picks, or we’re waiving Leighton?
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
I thought we already waived Leighton and no one wanted him, and if that’s not the case I’m sure it will be soon…damn contract.

Homer could give DSOD the same favor he gave Boucher in 2006-2007, sign him to Adirondak, and releasing him if he get’s an offer from an NHL team that wants him. (Boucher went to San Jose near the trade deadline, he played all year for the Phantoms, Homer did him the favor to keep him playing).

Another head scratcher by the FO. If we get rid of Bob in addition to all the other ridiculous crap Holmgren has done this past offseason I am just gonna lose my shit.
p.s. did anyone else die a little inside when they saw Richards being introduced to the Kings media? I cried real tears.

I think no one is even looking at the Bob thing in terms of actual value, though. I mean we pulled him out of Russia without so much as wasting a draft pick. If he even netted us a 2nd and a third, which I think is pretty lowball, that equates to being given 2 free picks.
I may also be less emotional about Bob due to dumping all that first year hope into Boosh and Esche in the Nitty in the last decade.
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
The last thing I want to do is trade Bob, but at this point it’s the best thing for him. Maybe at any point it was the best thing for him, if you look at our track record developing netminders.
The best future I can envision for him with the Flyers at this point is we trade him, he grows into quality starter somewhere, and we get him back when he’s a couple years past his prime.
Ecstatic to be joing the Florida Panthers Organization!! Awesome day... Truly a dream come true.

All the more reason for me to become a Hawks fan. Emery and Carbomb.
semi related note, I had a weird dream last night involving Bryzgalov being the Flyers captain. It was horrible.

Now someone put up a CBA signal…
What is the contract rules of moving Couturier or Noebels out of the Q or the WHL?
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
And into the ECHL? Or the AHL?
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
ECHL, its been discussed and determined that moving to the AHL and not the NHL when under a certain age is against the contract of the minor leagues…
Just wondering if moving from one Minor league to another is allowed, (don’t know about competiton, but being so close to the Flyers could probably help with development? maybe?)
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
Well, the CBA only recognizes the AHL and ECHL as minor leagues, right? The juniors are seen as something separate.
I don’t think the standard of play is any higher, so it might not be worth the worry, but I’ll let someone who knows the CBA sort out the details.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
Not sure, thats the main thrust of the question, where the ECHL falls in terms of leagues, and if it is above or if it is at the same level as Major-Juniors, and if a contracted player can move between junior leagues.
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
I feel like we’ve already covered this more than thoroughly enough… the answer doesn’t change. If they don’t make the NHL roster, they’re the property of their Junior team. An ECHL team in Trenton makes no difference.
ECHL is technically professional (like the AHL), for what it’s worth. The players in the ECHL and AHL who are on minor league (non-NHL) contracts belong to a common union, the PHPA.
But this isn’t just about “Couturier has to stay in Juniors”, it’s also about the fact that the junior team we drafted him from still has rights to him if we don’t want him on our roster. They Flyers can’t say “Well we’d rather he played for the team in Blainville than stay in Drummondville” either. He either makes our squad or he gets offered back to the team we drafted him from.

Thanks DG. Obviously I am still working my brain around this in general. And how all the leagues work. (like the fact that the ECHL is technically a professional league)
Anyone know how the Schenn thing worked out last year? He was on 2 different Junior teams last year, wasn’t he? Did he get traded in the Juniors?
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
Yeah, he was traded from Brandon to Saskatoon in January.
Canada’s top scorer at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship has been dealt from the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings to the Saskatoon Blades. The first few games he played in the AHL were on a conditioning loan; so it’s not the same as being assigned to play in the AHL. The rest were after his junior team’s season was over.
In exchange for Schenn, Brandon receives the Blades’ first-round bantam picks in both 2011 and 2012. As well, the Wheat Kings get Saskatoon’s second-round pick this year and the Blades’ first-round selection in the 2012 CHL Import Draft. In addition to the four draft picks, the Wheat Kings receive the Blades’ top two 15-year old prospects: centre Tim McGauley and defenceman Ayrton Nikkel. McGauley and Nikkel were the Blades’ first two picks in last year’s WHL Bantam Draft, going 20th and 42nd overall respectively.

I’m not convinced a “quick strike” goal total is telling us anything more than we already have. Only one team in the top half of the league in GA is in the top ten for quick strikes goal allowed (Philly) and only one team from the bottom half of the league in GA is in the top ten for fewest quick strike goals allowed (Calgary).
I’m not convinced this isn’t a random thing that wouldn’t mostly mirror GA over a large enough sample size.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
DSOD ain’t happening. Sorry.
