A tiger…. that’s all i’m gonna say

Yeah that mask is pretty terrible.

Just once, I would like to see a goalie go with an all white mask, old school style. And not just for a game or two while a new mask is being made, but for an entire season. There is something to be said for the classics.

Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.

That is all.

I’m just disappointed he got rid of his kids’ drawings; I would have liked to see one make it, even if it was on the mask. I’m not a huge fan of it because I’m not into that style of tiger, but it’s well balanced and the colors are nice. A little busy, but it’s not nearly as bad as Bob’s new mask from last season.

oops, should read, even if it was on the back of the mask.

by DLJr on Aug 17, 2011 9:11 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree, his kids drawings were the perfect and to me, most logical choice to use. Maybe the Tiger means something to him, I don’t know. But I think what bugs me the most is that it’s just too busy for my tastes.

Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.

by EREX21 on Aug 17, 2011 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions

I’d agree it’s a little busy, but after seeing Bob’s mask, with the 127 Bobs on it, it seems less so to me. I just think the stripes on the tigers got overly artistic for the scale of the tigers, I think with smaller tiger it would have worked, or with less artsy stripes it could have worked.

Imagine that..

I disagree about the mask. I think its awesome, and a great choice with the tiger. The biggest reason is because its orange. From a distance it will look sick with all of our jerseys plus they’re tigers!? Am I the only one that thinks tigers are fricken badass? Its not like he’s got ferries and unicorns prancing around on a pink and purple mask.. I just think some people have a hard time accepting, well, anything.

I don’t care for the stylized curly “stripes.” Also, I think it adds to my feeling that he’s pretty damn full of himself. He’d better deliver if he’s going to be so cocky. I dunno, that’s just what I get from it… But tigers are badass.

NIT-PICK

The " stylized curly stripes" are done in what we call tribal. Its very artistic and creative theme often used in tattooing. To me it makes the tiger look even more bad ass but hey some people don’t like it. That’s fine even though its so suttle that its hardly noticable. But how does having 2 tigers on your mask along with a big fat flyers logo on the front make him seem full of himself and cocky? How ridiculous. Because he put his nickname Bryz on the bottom, like just about every other goalie in the league does?

by kckrebs on Aug 17, 2011 1:32 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Not the name. I took the tigers as comparing himself to a tiger. Like he’s saying he’s that badass. I’m probably reading way too much into it. I already had the impression that he is cocky from things he’s said in interviews, so because of that, that’s what I saw when I looked at the mask.

by kckrebs on Aug 17, 2011 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

The quote starts with ‘or’ because that’s how you started your sentence. I copied a complete sentence that you said. That’s not mining. That’s copying directly a question that you asked me, which makes the suggestion that I don’t like animals at all (you meant on masks, presumably, not in a general sense). And I don’t think I said anything that suggests I don’t like animals (on masks or in general). But you did: that question. The one that I copied. In its entirety. When I wasn’t mining.

Let's open up the old complaining fortress of solitude

I would have really preferred Bryzgalov incorporate his children’s drawings into his mask, or perhaps give me a tribute to Tretiak. Ivan Drago also scores points with me

“By insulting the media, you insult the fans”
No, that logic bridge right there is full of faulty logic. Why are people making such a big gripe over what the league (and most of its fans) consider to be a scrub? So he’s running his mouth. It’s not an all star or even a good player talking shit, but a scrub whose ceiling is an underwhelming 3rd line RW who has “heart/grit/hustle” but really nothing else.

People need to stop getting butt hurt. It’s like if Freddie Mitchell started running his mouth about the Eagles, then you realize its Freddie Mitchell running his mouth, and ignore him

people misdirect their hate these days. I think the media is stupid because it’s quite obvious that their hockey average is well below the other sports. Square peg, round hole etc

Now the fans love the sport they watch, but they refuse to educate themselves and hold cro-magnon man beliefs about the game: fighting deters cheap shots

so yeah, the media doesn’t represent the fans

I think this line of logic is both bullshit and insulting.

You’d be getting a verbal boot down the throat if you were saying Lappy is a scrub not worth reporting on. 3rd/4th line player? yup. who has “heart/grit/hustle?” yup.

Your a pro athlete, your line assignment and superstar status means jack-all about the weight of your opinion in terms of your team/city.

My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.

by 02h32m01s on Aug 17, 2011 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions

You’re missing out on a key ingredient though: Lappy knows his place on the team. He has no illusions; he doesn’t believe that he is under utilized in a system. Rather he’s a team player, and understands that when the 3rd line is as good as it was for the Flyers, 4th line is where he should be.

Your status is correlated with your place on the team. Sidney Crosby’s opinion is the same as Matt Cooke’s? Come on now, that’s counter-intuitive and insulting to Sidney Crosby.

Carbomb has sour grapes about the situation and it’s coming out in this way. It’s funny how Carter and Richards combined had less to say on the matter than Carbomb did. They were “shocked” that they were traded, yet Carbomb is the one insulting people. I could understand the complaining by Carter and Richards. They are players you build a franchise around. If they are unhappy with management, their opinion carries more weight than a guy like Carbomb, who is expendable. That is an understatement in and of itself

Carbomb has sour grapes about the situation and it’s coming out in this way.

I would say it’s sour grapes too, but I would add that Homer stated that he was going to tender Carcillo, then opted not to do so. As a result, Carcillo didn’t get the $ 1 million+ and had to settle for starting over elsewhere at a 25% pay cut.

I disagree on just about every point.

The only thing I would put in the “not a team player” aspect of Carcillo would be arbitration last year.

Matt Cooke Carried an A for most of last year, this is a horrible example. I might personally think he is a giant POS, but as far as the Penguins go, he was one of the teams most important voices, otherwise there is 0 reason to put a letter on his sweater, his play certainly didn’t deserve it.

And a player like Carbomb has much less to lose by being “sour grapes” as you put it. Carter/Richards are still Marquee players, Carter is going to be a face of the franchise with Nash. Richards is likely going to be back into Selke territory depending on how he’s used and teamed with in LA. I doubt either their agents, new teams, or new GMs wanted them mouthing off about the Philly situation.

My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.

by 02h32m01s on Aug 17, 2011 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions

the fact that Matt Cooke carried an A on his sweater is an atrocity to the sport. If his voice was a prominent one in the locker room, it is no shock to me how the Penguins underachieved in the first round against TB.

Thanks for pointing out that Cooke held an A last year. Only time I’d give him a letter was if I was playing a game of hangman, and the board read, “J_CK_SS”
