It's taken for-ev-er for this news to become a reality, probably to the point where more than a few of us have gotten a little nervous that the game might not happen. But alas, never fear: the Winter Classic is coming to Citizens Bank Park on January 2, and that will be officially announced next week at the ballpark.
Via Frank Seravalli at the DN today:
That is all expected to change next week when the NHL will finally - formally and officially - announce Citizens Bank Park as the home of the 2012 Winter Classic between the Flyers and New York Rangers, a league source told the Daily News.
Who knows exactly what other information we'll get at the press conference, but Phils host the Mets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the Marlins come in for a weekend series on Friday. We'd have to assume that if there's a press conference next week, it's going to come on Thursday afternoon when the Phils are off.
If you're looking for jersey information, we might not get it during the press conference. The Penguins and Capitals didn't unveil their uniforms for the 2011 Winter Classic until October. We will, hopefully, learn about ticket information sometime sooner than that, however.
