Regarding the Pension Plan Puppets story on goons – the commenters there focused on ways to limit the goons from fighting, like a 5 fight limit prior to getting suspended followed by gradually increasing suspensions. I saw a comment long ago (I think it was here) about using a TOI threshold for suspensions as well. If the player has more than x fights (2? 3?) he will be subject to being suspended earlier if his average TOI is under 5 (8?) minutes/game. It would either force coaches to give their goons more ice time, an obvious disadvantage, force them to have fighters who can actually play, or to have the goons get suspended more frequently. I would have posted this a Pension Plan, but the comments were already closed.
si vis Stanley Cup, para bellum
Suspensions aren’t a very good punishment , they understand it’s a risk of how they play so one or two are a grain of salt.

As i mentioned before, there’s nothing stopping coaches from just letting their goons get suspended and calling up a substitute goon. Its not like there aren’t 2-5 goons on every minor league team.
Original member of the Mike Weber bandwagon!
To make up for lost time, the Sabres signed six seasons worth of front-loaded cap skirting contracts in one week.
Comments aren’t closed on the post.
That’s a good suggestion except that you’d have to take into account Ubiquitous’ thought about substitute goons being used.

Lindros got me into the Flyers as a kid
I might have simply been too young to understand why so many Flyers fans hate him, but I really dislike the many Flyers fans who seem to forget what Lindros brought to this team in the 90s.
Simon Gagne AND Mike Richards may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home but, at the end of the day, they will both always be Philadelphia Flyers.
One day Sean Couturier will win the Conn Smythe. You heard it here first.

Badly worded: I don’t dislike those fans, I just dislike that idea of ignoring his contributions.

I’ve been a Flyers fan a long time, in fact I’ve seen the Cup twice. The problem with Lindros isn’t his talent, which was awesome. The problem is him the person. Between his reliance as a grown man to have “daddy” handle his affairs to his banging Brind’Amour’s wife, he left the image of being slimier than a squid’s dick. Along with unfulfilled promise.

I was also a kid when Lindros was around. And I guess I’m glad that I was blissfully unaware of all the stuff away from the rink. We watch hockey for what they do on the ice. Who cares about anything else?

Any idea when they go on sale?

Phantoms Schedule
It wasn’t clear from the schedule, but it doesn’t look like they’re playing a “homecoming” game in Philly like they have each year since the team left Philly.
Also, any word on whether the Albany Devil’s are playing some games in AC again?
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
I don’t think the Devils are. There are rumors that the Phantoms are playing an outdoor game at CBP though, a few days after the Winter Classic.

Looking at their schedule, hopefully it will be the Jan 6 game against Hershey, that would be an event for fans of both teams.
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
I can’t tell but maybe someone else can. Was the decision to drop the brawl game from the viewing party schedule made after the Pens fanbase/ brass/ Mario complained? Pens fans tend to be crybabies to begin with, but I would think they alone don’t wield enough influence to get that game dropped. Did the league ( Bettman) step into this in some unofficial capacity to stop it? Had the Pens won that game, wouldn’t they show it at their own viewing parties?
Considering all the suspensions and outrage over the events of that game, I wouldn’t be surprised if the league stepped in and said they probably shouldn’t be glorifying it with a viewing party.

I guess WYSP’s ratings tanked. WIP is trying to stay competitive with EPSN radio and moving over to the FM dial now too. So WIP is spreading tot he FM dial. The only good news is that Eskin will ave a reduced role.

What’s going on with WIP? Will I still get them on my phone through tune in radio?

I think you will. They’re picking up an FM simulcast on 94.1 starting on, I think, Sept. 6.

hey
If hockey teams wore soccer kits….
My friend showed me that last night, it’s kind of cool. I could totally dig that “Wells Fargo” jersey sponsorship……

Agreed don’t like how he used the black in either one. At first I thought we were sleeveless on the orange. Really dislike the black. By far I think the flyers are near the bottom of the pack after checking them all out. I admit it could be bias though since our sweater is very good and it’s hard not to compare to that.

the best thing about soccer uniforms is that the teams don’t have home/away jerseys, they have primary and alternate jerseys. As long as they aren’t to close to the home team, the road team can still wear their main jersey. And the alternate jersey doesn’t have to be white either.
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
I’m sure the Flames and Senators would be thrilled about having to wear the same logo on their uniforms. Obviously the kits are different, but it would probably still look funny when they played against each other.

Drury
The NHLPA announced what Andy Strickland said weeks ago- Chris Drury is retiring. I would’ve liked to see him extended a tryout, but oh well.
Now that former Canucks first round pick Patrick White is a free agent, should the Flyers sign him to a minor league deal? We need some players to play for the Titans, don’t we?
So, we’re losing another rock station in the city and it’s being replaced by a shitty sports station?

It depends on your definition of "rock"
I don’t really listen to WMMR or WYSP anymore because their definition is a bit to narrow for me, I hate most of the new stuff they play, and I’m tired of their limited playlist of old stuff.
These days my car is most often on 104.5, and sometimes XPN

Kinda, but 104.5 plays more indie rock.

yeah, 104.5 is more on the indy side of alt-rock, y100 was more on the emo/pop-punk side.
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
I just went on 104.5’s site and looked at last 10 played.
To my surprise, Brand New was on the list. Other than that, I’m not particularly impressed. I guess they’ll be my backup station now that 94.1 is gone though.

Yeah, it’s a bummer. One of the largest cities in the country—and one of the most prominent media markets—and we have exactly one rock station now. Just goes to show that everything is moving toward catering to the younger demographic, and they don’t listen to music on the radio. That’s what the iPod is for.
At the very least, Eskin is leaving. It’s a start. Now if we can find someway to remove Cataldi it would be perfect. Alas, his ratings are too high which makes me sad.
What kind of plane is it? Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big ol' Tylenol.

Goons
that article is spot on but I can’t read the comments anymore. Automatic game misconducts and suspensions for fighting is absurd.
once GM’s realize goons only fight goons they’ll be gone. Players need to be able to play the game on top of fighting now.
http://restorations.bandcamp.com/
Fighting
can never go away totally. In my opion it is a part of the game that people both love and hate but no matter how you feel it has to be there. If you take fighting out which they tried to start to do in the 90’s with instagation and I think game misconducts they saw the stick work get out of hand. It is part of the game and has been for a long time, you will always need players to stick up for the smaller and more skilled player. Take away fighting and the cheapshots and stick work will end up hurting a superstar.
There’s a difference between fighting and goons. Goons need to be taken out of the game, fighting needs to stay.
In other words, the Colton Orr’s and Jody Shelley’s and Trevor Gillies’ of the world need to be removed from the NHL. The Ian Laperriere’s and Mike Rupp’s and Ryan Clowe’s of the world need to stay.
That’s the distinction made in the PPP article, and it’s one the NHL needs to make.

Trevor Gillies had 2 goals this year. Imagine if he was playing more then 3 minutes a night? By my math he could have been a 100 goal scorer.
