Personal interest in the Devils/Music/Copyright article. Art V. commercial application always fascinates me, as does copyright law. It will be interesting to see if they took the video on official channels outside of the arena. Also the wording was a little off I felt in some response, left a bit up to interpretation. Specifically if music incorporated into a multimedia presentation would need a synch license, as opposed to a silent video montage displayed while piping music separately through the sound system.
My son was born in Ottawa (Go Senators!) to a Father (Go Flyers!) and a Mother (Go Canucks!) who's families root for two different hockey teams (Go Habs!)(Go Bruins!) Little Maxwell is going to have such a confusing life.
seems to me like they were stoked and then a lawyer got ahold of them or a friend told them to sue them. IF the video was used on the website, then they’ll win the case, not for $10 or $30m however. They’ll get damages and a payment for royalties they didn’t receive. Either way I’d go out on a limb and say this band was never going anywhere and this was their only shot at fame. Embarrassing honestly.
A band doesn’t lose sales by getting promotion, so they won’t be able to argue that at all.
And honestly it’s their own fault for going with ASCAP who does the blanket licensing which reduces the amount the band get’s paid for the songs. Idiots.

Looks great
I would like to see NHL 12 actually put this helmet design into the game, instead of seeing the generic Flyers mask that has been in the game for Flyers’ goalies the past few years.

I’m not nervous if Jagr will fit on the team but rather what he has left in the tank.
This is my synopsis of the upcoming season for Jagr. Plays between 25 to 35 games, suffers at least two nagging injuries related to game shape and age and then the season ends with him in Czech Republic sitting on unanswered questions and conflict.
Arguing last week about Lilja will become a non-issue compared to giving a guy 3 million for what I believe was a career that ended 5 years ago.

I think he meant these numbers.
If the FO’s logic is as bad as implied in the PuckUpdates article, then there really is no hope. However I sincerely doubt that Homer et al chased Jagr purely to piss the Pens off and reduce the Richards/Carter talk.

I have no idea what this means.

Fight School
two things-
1. for the older set- I don’t ever remember broadcast’s cutting to commercials during telecast’s until Buttman took over, am I remembering this wrong or do you remember the broadcast’s cutting out? I actually remember getting mad that anytime a fight was about to start they’d go to commercial then you had to find out about it a minute later.
2. that the Montessori/Whole Foods set would sooner let their children watch Glenn Beck before teaching them these values- that’s rude. As a member of the Whole Foods set, and a liberal I’m offended. Also though I may be the only liberal in the world in favor of the death penalty.
3. Beman’s company, One Punch Sports Management, is registered with the PHPA, an agency that represents the professional players in the AHL, CHL, and ECHL. The listed business e-mail address has a hotmail.com suffix. — What in the crap does the email business suffix have to do with ANYTHING at all here?
I think the camp is a good idea but should be more focused on protecting yourself on the actual ice.

On number one, that’s just Versus (or apparently Comcast) being a tad overzealous. I watch a lot of different feeds and, for at least a few of them, they’ve demonstrated the ability to cut off the commercials if something interesting happens.

My favorite part:
This year you started training later than usual. Why?[Note: I had to eliminate the paragraph breaks in his answer, because I can’t figure out block quote]
I went to the gym in Greece, I kept myself in shape. In Novokuznetsk we played soccer…
Were you in goal?
No, I was running on the field scoring goals. When I arrived in Austria, I didn’t start working out from ‘zero.’ But you are right, now I am now in a hurry to get on the ice. Last season I started getting ready for the rookie camp that was held in July. I skated all summer. Right now one month of ice will be enough. I am going to Philadelphia on the 25th of August, and I will start skating there. I am going to the States with my mom. Olga will come over a little bit later, when she gets her visa. Now I am going to the US in a different mood. A rented apartment is waiting there for me. I have an idea about life in America. And I even know English more or less. I tried it out in Austria. I understood almost everything, and I can explain myself. Although I am not ready yet to give wide-ranging interviews.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
The trick with block quoting is that it’s set up to quote one defined paragraph, which is defined with “< p >” tags, and if you want to quote multiple paragraphs in one box, you have to fool it into thinking it’s all one paragraph. The easiest way to do that is to remove the existing paragraph breaks from the quote, like you did, and replace them with normal line break tags, ie “< br/ >” (without all those spaces). It’s annoying to have to do that manually, but I think it’s the most efficient way.
So to get
This year you started training later than usual. Why?You’d remove the original paragraph breaks and do:
I went to the gym in Greece, I kept myself in shape. In Novokuznetsk we played soccer…
This year you started training later than usual. Why?<br/><br/>I went to the gym in Greece...
Did that explanation make any sense?

I’ve found that sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on the type of tags the site you copied from is using, whereas the other method works every single time. You can always try the [enter][enter] first and use preview, but there have been a lot of times for me personally that it hasn’t worked.

Given the excitement surrounding the Phillies and the Eagles and the complete blow-up of the Flyers over the off-season, I am having a harder time getting excited for this Flyers season than I have in seasons past. Am I the only one?

Not really. Don’t get me wrong I’m excited for the Phillies and I’m watching every game, but they aren’t mutually exclusive for me until there’s a time conflict. The Eagles don’t have much ability to distract me, and the Flyers off-season blow up is more like watching a train wreck and not being able to turn away… “will it all be okay?”

I’m really excited for the season. For the first time in a decade, it doesn’t look like we have to score 5-7 goals to win every night, and i am really excited to see if Schenn can make the step. I think Voracek is going to be the “holy shit” pick up this year, I really think he will be the goods….and we will all laugh as Leino flops in his bed stuffed with hundred $$$ bills. This Flyers squad appears to me to have a better work ethic already….but we shall see. I don’t regard the offseason as a trainwreck in any shape or form.
There is such a thing as “too much talent” on a team (I’ve been on two hockey teams myself, that had this very issue, albeit at a much lower level :)), and I think the Flyers were guilty of thinking they were “that good” last year. Boston, on the other hand, had no illusions, and they played their hearts out, unlike our sputtering Flyers, who just “expected” to have the engine start at some point.

Professional hockey and amateur hockey are two different beasts.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
People are still people, no matter what.
Amateurs also stupidly care about the game they play. Professionals are sometimes wholly unburdened by such trivialities.
"Ocean: A body of water covering 2/3 of a world MADE for man....who has no gills."
it doesn’t look like we have to score 5-7 goals to win every night
a) I’m not sure the team has improved their goals against by any significant amount this offseason. Bobrovsky and Boucher played very well last year, with save percentages right at Bryzgalov’s career average and only a small step behind his career best. And the skaters may be a lot worse defensively than they were last year — the two best defensemen have gotten another year past 35 and the two best two-way forwards have been traded away. So I don’t see a huge leap forwards at the defensive end of the ice.
b) I assume 5-7 goals was hyperbole, but it’s hyperbole to even say the Flyers had a bad defense. They finished 11th in the league in goals against per game — above average, just behind San Jose and just ahead of Chicago. They had an average-plus defense, which is plenty good enough to win. In fact, you have to go back to ’07-08 to find a year they were below average.
I think the Flyers were guilty of thinking they were "that good" last year. Boston, on the other hand, had no illusions, and they played their hearts out, unlike our sputtering Flyers, who just "expected" to have the engine start at some point.
The team played outstanding in the first half, and dropped off sharply and immediately when Pronger got hurt. In the absence of any evidence that their attitude and self-confidence suddenly changed dramatically at about that same time, it makes a lot more sense to attribute the dropoff in their performance to injury than to attitude.
As for the notion that the Flyers were just coasting and ""expected"" to suddenly turn it on at some point, I would remind you that they did play very good hockey against Buffalo. They dominated the first but lost 1-0 (because they need to score 5-7 1 goals to win), won the next two, and controlled the fourth but lost 1-0 (that pesky 1-goal rule again). When they faced Boston, they were going up against a great team, using their backup goalie for no great reason, missing their best forward and best defenseman. Again, while it’s possible that they had a sudden attitude problem after the Buffalo series, I don’t see enough evidence to conclude they were anything other than outmanned by Boston.

I’ll be into them once the season starts, but I’m still unhappy about the offseason moves and hoping it all comes together minus a crapton of goals. Seeing Mike Richards in the LA sweater makes me want to hurt someone in the most violent manner possible.

Ugh, yes. The other day one of my coworkers (most of them are Caps fans) was talking to be about off-season moves for the Flyers and Caps and he said something to the effect of “yeah, after they let Richards and Carter go, I started hearing all this stuff in the media about them partying too much and being a locker room problem.” It set me off on a pretty long tirade. Fucking revisionist bullshit.

I can easily say that this is the least excited I have been for the start of the Flyers season in awhile. That mostly has to do with the fact that I do not think that, as of right now, the Flyers are good enough to even challenge for the Stanley Cup, let alone win it. I just have this awful feeling in my stomach that this whole new “era” in Flyers hockey is going to be a disaster.
