- Jakub Kovar stopped 34 of 37 shots in a 4-3 win: [euroflyers]
- Apparently, the Flyers hold Kovar's rights until the Czech federation gets a new transfer agreement, or Kovar turns 27: [euroflyers]
- Blake Kessel made a website for a college class. It's still online. And it is hysterical. Credit for sharing goes to PPP's Chemmy, though others may not be so kind to give credit: [Blake Kessel webpage]

- An AP interview with Ed Snider on the Winter Classic, selling the Sixers, and more: [The Washington Post]

- What would happen if NHL fans had their own training camp? [Down Goes Brown]
- The NHL is considering completely revamping their alignment, going with four divisions. Really interesting proposal: [Puck Daddy]

Two words strike me about the preseason win last night – Bob and speed. Bob was so good that it makes you hope the Flyers will be able to hold out long enough to get a quality return on his eventual trade. As for speed, were there any slow skaters out there besides Walker? All night long, the Flyers just showed they’re a scrappy bunch with the ability to outskate the opposition. Rinaldo’s goal was just the clearest example of this. Loved what I saw, looking to see if the veterans can do as well.
Lifelong Tennessean, Flyers' fan for life
Bob was so good that it makes you hope the Flyers will be able to hold out long enough toget a quality return on his eventual trade.realize how good he is and decide to shop Bryzgalov for a first rounder to some desperate team that needs a goalie
Simon Gagne AND Mike Richards may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home but, at the end of the day, they will both always be Philadelphia Flyers.
One day Sean Couturier will win the Conn Smythe. You heard it here first.

Honestly, I thought Lilja was more mobile than Walker last night; did anybody else feel the same way or were my eyes deceiving me?

I saw the same thing. And to be honest I was kinda hoping (for some reason that escapes me) that he would turn it around and be a solid player. Lilja looked solid though. And Bartulis looked good too.

Lilja was more mobile than someone? Was it a wax replica of Walker, perhaps? Or does the CBA have a form of PUP that we can use other than LTIR?

This is my first time posting, but I’ve read BSH for a couple years now, and I love it. Made my account yesterday to post on the Pronger Captain story, but the system made me wait.
Anyways, as far as Lilja and Walker go, I enjoyed watching Walker play. I saw him taking the body a lot, and a handful of big hits from him. I’d thought it was Rinaldo at first, or another guy like him, and had to check the roster numbers, but sure enough, it was #8 Matt Walker laying down the big hits. I didnt notice Matt’s skating as much, and I didnt watch Lilja as closely, but I did like the physical play.
Welcome!

I’m still trying to figure out what is hilarious about it. Unless something was wrong with the link when I looked, it was just a bunch of examples of frames, etc. and a brief bio about his brother.
I do comedy for a living. If it’s that easy to make people laugh I’m going to be pissed that I’ve been putting in all this extra effort over the years.
Well, I can see how the simplicity and level of effort put into the assignment might make some people chuckle.
I mean, it’s no post-it on a fire alarm. I think we can all agree on that.

It’s part of their conspiracy to show that NHL players are all complete goons, and that’s why they don’t normally cover such a bloodsport.

Bryz better get a shutout … just to keep pace with Bob.
And does that look like more of a full-time lineup or what??? All four projected permanent centers, each with at least one for-real NHL winger? (Yes, in Betts’ case I am counting Holmstrom as an NHL player.)

Walker
Walker, 31, admits that he isn’t very good at math.
Aha! That’s why Homer got him!
People come and go from the AHL for different reasons—young players needing the extra ice-time to develop, established players rehabbing injuries, or mediocre defensemen signed to ridiculous contracts
Ding ding! Yeah, Walker aint makin it.
Speaking of AHL translations, are the translation factors used listed somewhere? The article doesn’t say, but I was wondering if TOI plays a significant part.
Meaning how’d they get to 0.45, or how they got to the numbers in the table?

The numbers in the table. Just wondered what are the factors and how are they weighted.
Actually, are there examples to look at where a player had the some TOI one year in the AHL, then the same or (very close) TOI the next year in the NHL?
As I understand, it is the same as the factors to get 0.45. Meaning it is simply what those players did the following year in the AHL.
So the 52 players who scored over a point per game in the AHL one year, they averaged only 34% of their point total in the NHL the next.
They didn’t weight it, just look at raw point totals.

I am in Clinton NJ and get the Philly version of TCN on Comcast. Last night however I was getting the Washington DC feed and instead of the Flyers game I got high school football.
Was the game on TCN in Philly? I have major problems seeing the games where I am to begin with (due to Geo Blocking I can not get the Center Ice Package….its a long story) so having it blacked out in my area for whatever reason really sucks.
If anyone has any insight into this and what will be happening with tonights game on TCN your comment would be greatly apprecitated.

Look at when Tom and Jerry run through the house. They keep passing the same furniture and rooms over and over again. The really old cartoons are art.

Hmm, I spent most of my childhood being entertained by cartoons, not analyzing the artwork or backgrounds. To each their own.

My childhood was a mix of cartoons and intense curmudgeon training.

As an adult I find the infinite room gag quite entertaining as a solution to expensive cell work.
But yes, WWII era stuff was art. My brother is an illustrator and his current obsession for the last couple years has been Popeye.

Weren’t Tom and Jerry Metro-Goldwin, not H-B???

I went “crap, he’s right”, then went to wikipedia to look it up. Apparently it was created by H-B for MGM, so we’re both right.

I joined a league at work and named my team Avery’s Ovaries (half the league are Rangers fans). Another team in the league is named Zhitnick on my Peca.
Best name I’ve seen so far is Ovie Like Semin on his Backstrom.

I’m sorry I missed out on all the fun around here yesterday and this morning. The rug was quite literally pulled out from under me in grad school yesterday afternoon when my professor bailed and my 10th and final class needed to get my MS degree was canceled three weeks into the semester. Needless to say, that sent me into a frenzy trying to get permission to drop/add and move to another class well past the deadline. Which led to heavy drinking last night. I think everything is under control, but not entirely finished yet…

But this is my last semester, this is the last class I need to graduate. And I’m at the time limit (5 years) for getting the degree. I’ve never felt so screwed-over in my life. So I’m fighting my ass off to make sure they fix this and I’m done in December.

Take it from someone who gave up fighting the administration…
Don’t ever back down an inch. No matter how screwed you feel or how impossible things seem.
Biggest mistake I ever made was getting disheartened and walking away.

At the beginning of another season’s journey I would like to thank those who make BSH possible.
There is no way I would be watching Flyers hockey in September were it not for BSH. Even when I had season tickets a long time ago in an arena not so far away, I never paid attention until October.
I’m not saying that marking the Autumnal equinox by watching Zac Rinaldo score a highlight goal is in my objective best interest, but I am impressed with the glue that BSH provides for a piece of Flyers fandom.

I think DGB makes an interesting point regarding fighting. I don’t cheer at fighting and never have, but I don’t want to see any Flyer take a beating either. Still, any time Shelley throws down from now on I will be thinking, “He just took another 6 months off his life”. That’s pretty sad.
Fighting is a choice, just like smoking. You know the health risks, the governing body taxes you / fines you for it, and it takes a finite amount off your expected lifespan each time you do it.
