Flyers waive five: Backlund, Bacashihua, Kalinski, Legein, Jancevski

The Adirondack Phantoms start training camp on Monday. They need players in order to have that camp, logically. Today, the Flyers began the process of giving them some players.

According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Flyers placed goaltenders Johan Backlund and Jason Bacashihua on waivers today. Veteran defenseman Dan Jancevski joins them, as do forwards Jon Kalinski and Stefan Legein. So... that's a start. We'd expect all five to clear waivers and report to Adirondack.

We're also expected the next round of cuts to come either today or tomorrow, so that'll add to the Phantoms camp roster quite a bit. And of course, it'll be interesting to see exactly who stays in Philly...

Hmmm...

So if Backlund and Chihuahua are going to be the intended Phantoms goalies, what’s up with Sir Michael Leighton of Fivehole?

I don’t think this shows Backlund and Bacashihua are the intended goalies, I think they’re the first two to go.

Backlund may fight to keep an AHL job, but if he loses, go to ECHL or Europe.

Right, there’s still an ongoing battle between Bryzgalov and Leighton to see who will be Bob’s backup.

Yeah, it seems that Read, BatShit and possibly Weed Test are above them on the pecking order now

by Irish Sutter on Sep 24, 2011 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, Read’s been catching some good attention. BatShitCrazy had a pretty good first game and they may want to see if he can keep it up (not reverting back to bajillion suspensions way). TestWeed, who knows – still could be suspended after last night.

I think they all fill different roles. Holmstrom wasn’t going to beat out Betts, Talbot, or Nodl. Wellwood isn’t nearly as good as everyone thinks he is, but he’s definitely behind Read now.

I can’t explain Testwuide, but Rinaldo is fighting Sestito to get the first 5 games in Shelley’s absence. Then they’re fighting Read for whether they can permanently unseat Shelley from the top-12.

A pair of names from Buffalo that landed on the waiver wire were forward Ales Kotalik and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn……Kotalik has a cap hit of $3 million while Morrisonn is set in at $2.075 million.

WAIT...who's "Brad Phillips"???

Keeping up with who is in the minors for the Flyguys in G is a fulltime occupation.

And whatever happened to Carter Hutton?

And if Phillips is there, then isn’t there a logjam already? I mean, there are only so many ECHL teams?!?

Phillips is ECHL bound already. He is below average. Hutton hasnt been with the Phantoms for over a year.
