Goalies

Could someone explain one thing to me? Doesn’t this now mean that the Flyers NHL and AHL clubs have 6 goalies between them – Bryzgalov, Bobrovsky, Leighton, Phillips, Backlund, and Bacashihua? Or are there even more?

How does this work? Do we have all 6 among the 2 rosters, or do we send some down further (is that possible)?

Phillips will likely go to the ECHL, which is a level below the AHL. One can be loaned to Europe if there’s a club willing to take them. But they won’t all be on the two rosters.

The Phantoms could have a total of 4-goalies fighting for the starting job at their training camp. As DG said, Backlund could get loaned out to another league, and Leighton and/or Bacashihua might not survive the waiver wire. It could go from 4 to 1 in a hurry, but more likely it’ll be Leighton/Bacashihua for the Phantoms, Phillips sent down another wrung, and Backlund in limbo.

The Phantoms actually seem like they should be decent this year.

Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.

That is all.

Yeah, with a potential BRA line of Brown, Read and Akeson lighting it up. :)

I agree. They have an interesting forward group so far. The defensemen though might need some tweaking.

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Walker and Janikowsky (no idea how to spell it but you know who I mean) will provide the veteran leadership. Marshall and Bourdon have one last shot and with guys like Gus and Kessel to contribute offensively, we should be fine—-especially with Leighton back there playing for his career.

Brandon Manning, don’t forget about him. I have a feeling Bartulis gets the last spot with Gustafsson as the 7th defenseman for call ups. But Manning is probably headed for the minors. I’d like to see Matt Read make the squad but I have a feeling with Shelley suspended for now that Rinaldo will begin the season in his spot.

Ah, but Lilja has a 35+ contract. Cannot be discarded by placing him in the AHL, still counts against the cap.

Lilja’s signing is particularly annoying to me, and I said so in July. I also said it would retard Bartulis’s and Gus’s progress.

Hunter Pence will not guarantee a WS, but, then, neither does Carlos Beltran.

There’s a $100k discount for putting him in the AHL, but yes, most of his salary would count against the cap.

Bob.
