You've felt kind of awkward during these Stanley Cup Finals. You've wanted the Los Angeles Kings to beat the New Jersey Devils, but the uncomfortable tug at your heart strings every time you see Mike Richards and Jeff Carter out there on an ice surface with STANLEY CUP FINAL painted on it is just too much to handle at times.
When Carter scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Saturday night in Game 2, you didn't even know what to think. You still don't really know what to think.
But now, there's news that all changes this. Simon Gagne is probably playing in Game 3, and you have no reason not to jump up and down and scream like a baby while watching tonight, just as if you were watching the Flyers in these Finals.
Gags hasn't played since December 26 with a concussion, and to date, he hasn't met the criteria for inscription on the Cup. Players need to play at least half of the regular season (41 games) or one game in the Finals to qualify to have their name on the Cup, and Gagne's only seen action in 34 games this season.
The Kings would be able to apply after the fact to have his name included, and that request would likely be approved, but there's no doubt about his potential inclusion should Gagne play in Game 3, Game 4 or beyond. It looks as though Gagne will be in for Brad Richardson tonight, according to reports from LA, and you have no excuse not to watch.
Go Kings Go. Let's get Simon the Stanley Cup he deserves.
