Helping the Rangers fans: Final Planning Thread

Since the other FanPost has now dropped off the front page, I wanted to try to get a cohesive thread together to finalize what we're actually going to do. I've pieced together a tentative plan based on the comments in the other two threads, and I want to try to get feedback on it before proceeding.

Star-divide

Most people still seem to be committed to the first portion of the money going toward jerseys. Since I have a family member to contact, I figured I'd a) start with asking if the jerseys they were wearing the day of the WC were damaged, and if so we'd work to replace those, and b) ask them to covertly get me sizing information (since we can't do anything without that anyway). If we don't end up replacing the jerseys they were wearing the day, I imagine we'll discuss here what we want to purchase?

The more pressing issue is what to do with the overage, since there's going to be quite a bit of money left over. There have been 3 main ideas floating around, and I want to try to determine the order that most people prefer we explore with those options:
a) A donation in their name, possibly to Defending the Blue Line,
b) Possibly helping with out of pocket medical expenses (which we have to get information from the family regarding how much of an issue that actually is, since the scope could vary), or
c) Getting tickets to see another game in Philly, with the promise of being escorted by BSH members to ensure their safety and that they have a better experience than they did for the Winter Classic.

If I missed something there, feel free to re-suggest it in the comments of this thread. I can add a poll if you people think that will make the decision easier.

Once we get through deciding what we're actually going to spend the money on, we can finalize the details of the letter that Shaun drafted and the actual exchange of the items.

Thanks in advance for your feedback guys.

I think medical expenses should be addressed first. Depending on insurance and other factors it may be the best help. Then Jerseys, then tickets.

I am damn proud to be a part of the BSH community,

First off
Thanks VorAbaddon for offering such a great idea, DG for putting in all the logistical work and everyone else who has contributed to this in any and every way.
Whatever is decided, I will fully support
If it ends up being
A I sugest that we find a way to contact them, to see what cause they would like the donation in their names to go to.
B reaffirms that we can get in contact with them, so we could find out where they would like the $ donated.
C would make for a nice BSH meet up. But possibly putting a little less public emphasis on the BSH escort
Whatever ends up occurring will be fantastic

I think that the tickets (if we get them) would be for a game in New York, but that’s just my opinion. I also think that tickets would be the best idea.

I agree with Prometheus about the BSH meet-up part of it. I think it would be fun and we’d be better able to express ourselves.

Awesome work, DG. Is it too late to donate, or rather would the 1st be too late?

Yeah if you want to chip in a few bucks on the 1st, that would be fine.

As for the charity, since he is a vet and a police officer, maybe the money would be better donated to a charity that helps one of those groups (personally, I’m a big fan of the wounded warrior project
