Don't want a 2012 lockout
Hey Flyers and NHL fans,
I was wondering if there is anyone that wants to help me voice my concerns about the upcoming NHL and NHLPA negotiations about the CBA. I have read a few articles about meetings. Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman are supposed to start talking in the next few months. Obviously, it is very early, but I'd like to let the NHL know what fans think.
Most of us remember 2004-2005, and I don't think any fans can forgive those idiots for losing an entire season. Furthermore, I think most do not want to deal with another labor problem.
Suggestions? Maybe a simple website with a sort of petition.

Most believe this will be resolved peacefully and there won’t be another lockout.

As bad as some of the issues are going to be; both sides know that the league can’t survive another one so soon. There will likely be times that it looks very ugly, but I think that in the end they’re committed to not falling into the same lockout trap as the NFL and NBA this past year.
The good news, in my personal opinion, is that having the old CBA stay valid until September 15, 2012 was actually very smart. That will allow the league to proceed with the draft, qualifying offers, free agency, rookie camps, arbitration, etc; and not run into the same traps that the NFL and NBA did in 2011. The NHL can keep functioning normally all through the off-season until just before training camps would be scheduled to start. Then if there ends up being a minor delay (which we’re all hoping won’t happen at all), we’re looking at situation significantly less dire and with a shorter recovery period. Instead of the wasted time of a whole summer without free agency, like the NFL, we’re looking at consequences more like training camp starting late. In the grand scheme of things, that’s way less impact than having to do 6 months of off-season work in only 1 week.
That said, should you do the work to set up a website with a fan petition to let the league know that we won’t tolerate another one, even though they already know that, I’d be willing sign it.
Warning: Arguing the NHL CBA with me could be hazardous to your mental health. Proceed at your own risk.
