Rumor has it that Frank “The Animal” Bialowas is going to come out of retirement for one shift, with the intention of fighting the entire Bears team. Ottawa may also lend Francis Lessard to the Phantoms for one game for the second shift, which will be similar in theme.
(Just kidding. I met Bialowas once at a signing, though. That guy was ripped. And slightly deranged).
It’s also great to see Cole Hamels staying fit in the off-season by playing left wing for the Phantoms.
Thank you. I’ll be here all night. Be sure to tip your bartender.

This a good idea, if it horizontally expands Cole’s strike zone.

(a) Ilya Bryzgalov's contract (b) Ryan Howard's extension (c) Mike Vick's extension (d) Greek bonds from 2009 (e) Papelbon's bloat deal
I assume that Hershey is the NYR AHL team?

So...
If Gus is playing tonight, I assume he won’t be playing for the Flyers tomorrow.

Still could be, considering he’s in Philly now and doesn’t have to come from Adirondack.

If Gus is playing tonight,I assume he won’t be playingit is much more likely he’ll be available to play for the Flyers tomorrow.

Yeah, though I doubt they want him playing 25 minutes tonight if he has a 1pm game tomorrow.

Point taken. However, that’s why I used “available.”

Although three games in three days is nothing to an AHLer, he’ll get tired by Tuesday.

What’s up with Holstrom wearing a full cage? Does he always wear it or did he get injured?

Apparently the player’s association has blocked the NHL realignment for next year. Whats up with that?
Good catch. I suspect (though I really hope I’m wrong) that this is Fort Sumter for Don Fehr.

Hey Travis, I do think you ought to look into NHLPA’s stance if you can. The only rationale I can think of that might be defensible for blowing this up is: “Hey, we were supposed to be partners…is this how you treat a partner? You just bring us in at the end?” A little junior-high-ish if true, but after all they apparently just told the NHLPA “this is what’s happening, get used to it.”

Yeah. I think the NHLPA’s stance is basically bullshit if they’re just saying it’s travel concerns. The travel isn’t much worse for most, and for many in the West it’s a whoooole lot better. And NHL players complaining about travel is such BS to begin with.

NHLPA just rejected the proposed realignment plan. Never liked the 4 conference idea.

Man, I just can’t get into AHL hockey at all. I live 20 minutes from the Bears arena and have gone to maybe a dozen games and they are just boring as hell.
When I lived in upstate NY, we had the Devil’s farm team there for a few years. After they moved along, we kept getting teams from progressively lower leagues. Those games were great. Cheap tickets and food, gritty, physical, and lots of personality to the players. I guess the problem is these AHL guys are trying to play NHL level hockey and just aren’t very good at it. Even after watching the world juniors this week, this is just a snooze fest.
Looks like comments an more comments on the thread tonight.

People say our problem as Philadelphia Flyers fans is we are stuck in the 70’s. All I can say to people is even in the year 2012 the only success Philadelphia Flyers fans have is when a team has Clarke, Barber and Parent on it. At least the phantoms got it done. Dammit Briere!

It never should have up to Briere. How the fuck does Rupp score 2 goals?!?

they didn’t do it during the winter classic either. They made a point of showing it on 24/7 as well. The flyer’s stayed on the ice and someone, unsure if it was an official or a ranger, off camera made a point of telling them, “there will be no handshake”. To which Giroux replied something to the effect, “fine we’ll get off the ice if we aren’t fucking wanted”.
I like that tradition on the NHL. Seems unsportsmanlike to skip it.
