Defense lets down Ilya Bryzgalov in 4-2 CSKA loss

Ilya Kovalchuk had a hat trick as Ilya Bryzgalov's CSKA fell, 4-2, to SKA St. Petersburg on Monday.

Ilya Bryzgalov's CSKA Moscow blew a 2-0 second period lead en route to a 4-2 home loss against SKA St. Petersburg on Monday afternoon. Ilya Kovalchuk scored a hat trick on the Flyers goaltender.

Bryzgalov didn't look fantastic in his second KHL game of the season, but he certainly wasn't at fault for the loss either. Bryz made 22 saves on 26 SKA shots, but nearly all of the goals were the fault of his defense. (Hey, sounds familiar!) They left him out to dry on several occasions, leaving tight shots for SKA to easily stuff home.

Bryz still seemed a bit off, but it's not terribly worrying when considering that he didn't attend training camp with the club and he's only two games in on his season.

Pavel Datsyuk got CSKA on the board in the first period, which was utterly dominated by the former Red Army squad. Former Nashville Predator Alex Radulov cost CSKA a chance to get back in the hockey game late, taking two undisciplined penalties in the final five minutes of the game.

CSKA is off until Saturday when they face off against Nail Yakupov's Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. There's no guarantee Bryzgalov will suit up in that one.
