Flyers tough guy Tom Sestito has joined the EIHL's Sheffield Steelers.

Tom Sestito is heading overseas. The Flyers and/or Adirondack Phantoms tough guy will play for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League over in the United Kingdom during the NHL lockout. Sestito made the announcement via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Sestito should be a solid player in the EIHL. The level of play has been compared to that of the ECHL in the United States in the past, and that's proven in the experience of the team's current roster. The Steelers roster has 938 games of AHL experience and just 76 games of NHL experience, not counting Sestito.

The majority of EIHL players are North American-born, making the league more North American in style than most other European leagues. Fighting and physical play are not rare in the EIHL like on some other Euro circuits.

The Steelers are currently atop both the Erhardt Conference and overall EIHL standings with a 5-3-0-1 record through nine games. They were the runners-up to the champion Belfast Giants a year ago. Most games are not available via webcast.
