Nicklas Grossmann will finally play in Sweden, signing a four-game contract with Södertälje SK, his old junior club.
Nicklas Grossmann wanted to go home to play with Södertälje SK, the Swedish club with which he began his career. It looked for quite a while there like expensive insurance costs would keep him from joining the club, but they announced instead Wednesday that he'll join them on a short four game contract.
Google translation time! (These were fun last month .. getting old now, NHL/NHLPA.)
We have talked about it a long time and a long time it looked like not being able to go down the road - but now it is clear. Nicklas Grossman[n] played four games for Sodertalje Sportklubb starting on Saturday when the SSK meets Asplöven at home.
According to Bill Meltzer, Grossmann will play on a defensive pairing with Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler. Fowler also signed with SSK on Wednesday and both he and Grossmann are expected to join the team in time for Saturday's game vs. Asplöven.
Grossmann and Fowler join Flyers forward Matt Read and Rangers forward Carl Hagelin as the four NHLers playing for SSK during the lockout. SSK plays in Sweden's second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan.
