This wouldn’t happen to be the DannyMcG I once knew as an RPS veteran? Would it?

I’m not sure what’s worse: the officiating or the Flyers’ PK.

by fiveredapples on Feb 11, 2012 1:59 PM EST reply actions

One thing that bothers me about refs

Not related to calls they make is that when the puck is coming around the boards near them, all they do is lift their leg and try not to have it hit them. They make no effort in many cases to get out of the way of players pursuing that puck. It is my opinion that there are too many officials on the ice. I understand that they want to have the ability to control the players in case of a scrum, but why can they not just have off ice officials readily available to step in if needed? The league functioned without any problems with three on ice officials for a long time, more people on the ice who are not playing the game only get in the way.

I go Bananas for Wayne Simmonds.

It’s worse than that, really. Homer’s never really been this close to running out of tagging space, where he has to really worry about this year’s roster moves because we’re close to the cap on next year.

Then why on cap geek is it saying 6 million space next year and traditionally the cap goes up each year. I know thats not counting the potential resigning of Jagr and Carle or Voracek but still 6 million to work with isn’t bad

But tagging space is a very funny thing. You cant commit more salary to next year than this year’s cap. And you actually have to be careful about it, even to the point that you’re active roster right now isn’t allowed to include people that would put them over next year’s cap because you’re out of tagged space.

This is based on something Bob McKenzie reported a while ago, when the Hawks were in a similar spot:

What we do know, though, is that once tagging room has been exhausted, if the club doesn’t find a way to create more — by dumping more longer term contracts — it can be a restrictive nightmare.

Let’s say the Hawks have sufficient tagging room to extend Kane, Toews and Keith but that there’s no wiggle room beyond that. What it means is that the Hawks, if they needed to recall a player from the minors for any reason, could not call up any player who has a contract that goes into next season. That would be a CBA violation — you can’t overspend on tagging room — and not permitted by the league.
You basically have to pre-calculate the cap for the following season before you make roster moves, at least that’s a rough way of putting it, but the LTIR overage only helps you for this year and won’t let you call the player up if they’ll put you over on tagged space.

This isn’t something that’s clear, but rather something I had to heavily research. We’ve never really been this far against the wall, at least not that I’ve know about, where we were in danger of saying “we can’t call up a minor league player in a pinch because we’d go over next year’s cap, even though we have LTIR space for them now”

It’s only a real problem for people who have additional years. Rentals are okay, because they don’t take up tagged space on next year’s cap. To take on guys with additional years on their contract, we have to make sure we get rid of somebody who is also on next year’s cap.

by mtitanic on Feb 11, 2012 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

That is, would not be considered cap circumvention?

by mtitanic on Feb 11, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

At that point, it would depend on what the new CBA defines as cap circumvention… under the current rules, there’s nothing against that.

Jagr would just only be able to sign a 1 year deal again if we want to fit him solely into LTIR money. If he signs a multiyear deal we have to deal with the tagging stuff as it’s defined in the new language.

Your case is god awful

The media singlehandedly manufactured a narrative about Richards, Carter and Lupul partying too much, and so obviously their head’s not in the game

His coaches? All of the coaches in the NHL are swapped around until they find a fit somewhere. Stevens is trying things out in LA, Hitchock used to be in CLJ and is now in STL

The coaches may or may not be able to succeed in a given situation. Stevens had a team that eventually went to the Stanley Cup Finals. I’m glad Snider didn’t lose to Stevens

Well, I guess that’s one way to decide which of Jagr/Carle/Voracek to keep.

I heart our rookies.

Madly in love with Jaromir Jagr's brilliant smile and epic goal salute.

You mean you dont want the team out there out shot the other team 18-7?

by Anders Jensen on Feb 11, 2012 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

Shots don’t mean shit without the goals to go with them.

You do know you have to shot to score right? Not fighting, not hitting, but shooting.

by Anders Jensen on Feb 11, 2012 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

You have seen game where the other team really never gets chances but shoots the puck 41 times. That is what I meant there.

In the 3rd period tread, George have the Flyers with 13-8 scoring chances, so your point is still moot.

by Anders Jensen on Feb 11, 2012 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

If you can tell them how to score without shooting, you’d make millions.

Bad officiating aside, the Rangers are 3 out of 4 on their PP. We are helping them win.

This. If the PK were working, they would not have a lead.
