Questions to Answer
- Is the penalty kill better tonight?
- Jody Shelley do anything fun?
- How's Ilya Bryzgalov look in his first game back from the flu?
- With Jaromir Jagr out with the flu, somebody is going to get the chance to play with Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux. Who, and do they capitalize?
Go Flyers.

I’m bored out of my mind in a hotel room. Is there a LEGAL way for me to watch the game online? Otherwise you are my only way to know what is happening. Which is ok, but would be nice to watch the game too.

$79 for the remainder of the year. Or I guess it’d be legal to subscribe and then cancel within five days to get a refund.

No skirting of the line, as long as you “try” it then cancel within the time frame, you are fine.
Now if the system was messed up where you could constantly subscribe then unsubcribe, that is likely skirting on being legally troublesome.

Haha, when my brother was in Spain he couldn’t watch the games so I used to Skype him and point the computer at the TV. It actually worked pretty well. If you have any video chat software on your work computer and a very kind friend you could try that.

I guess that could be considered an illegal stream but as long as long as you move the camera once in a while and have a bit of a conversation the game being on is circumstantial. Like when someone shoots a live broadcast in a bar and the tvs happen to be on that content isn’t protected.

His numbers aren’t spectular, but every thing I’ve read in the last …2 minutes uses the word “solid” a lot. Well, as long as we don’t need to suit up Lilja anymore.
We don’t need another “numbers” type defenseman, we are full of guys who move the puck well. We needed a stay at home type to kill PKs and clear the porch so we don’t have another Rangers like game

Cool, I’m pretty happy with this pickup. I’m just basing my expectations off of our defensive additions the past few years. Kraijeck (spelling) and Boynton. His numbers definitely say that he’s much better than those two though.

Everyone is Dallas is out of nowhere. I’ll admit that I don’t know who he is, but his numbers look better than Lilja and SoD.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
Last year he played very strong competition (5th in the league) to a draw.
This year, he’s playing middling competition and getting creamed.
Hopefully this reflects more on his change of partner than on a change in him. It makes me suspect that he’s capable of doing well in the top 4 but not capable of carrying a bad partner.

And Eklund is quoted in the article saying the Flyers are looking for him:
“More and more, I’m hearing that the guy Philly will target is Dallas Stars’ defenseman Nicklas Grossman. While he’s not a big name around the league, Grossman brings a solid physical presence and is pretty reliable in his own end of the ice. He can routinely give a team 16-18 minutes per game of good defensive hockey. When healthy, he’s the type of player a team can put in the lineup and “forget” about."

I don’t mind overpaying with a 3rd round draft pick for Grossman than giving up a young gun like Cooter or Schenn for a someone like Suter, to be honest. I mean, Suter is great but if the Flyers were to trade for him, I’d want them to lock him into a new contract but he is going to want big money and with the uncertainty around Pronger, I just don’t think that another big contract is wise right now.

If it was just a 3rd rounder i might agree with you, but it’s not.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Between a second and a third round pick, a team has almost a 30% chance of landing a top-half-of-the-roster guy (top-5 forward, top-3 defenseman, starting goalie). I’m not sure about a bottom-half-of-the-roster guy, but let’s call that another 30% chance.
So 30% of the time you get a top-half-of-the-roster guy under team control for seven years, and another 30% of the time you get a bottom-half-of-the-roster guy under team control for seven years. Does that seem like fair value for 30% of a single season from a bottom-half-of-the-roster guy?
@BSH_EricT
Writer at Broad Street Hockey
(That was for lanci, if that wasn’t obvious.)
Put more arithmetically, it’s:
30% * 7 yrs * top-half-of-roster-guy plus
30% * 7 yrs * bottom-half-of-roster-guy
vs
30% * 1 yr * bottom-half-of-roster-guy
OK, that’s not quite fair because the draft picks won’t be in the NHL from year 1, but call it 3-5 years instead of 7 and the point still stands. This is a large I WANT MY DEFENSEMAN RIGHT NOW DAMMIT premium.

Flyers are third in the league in shots allowed on the PK…but like 13th in kill percentage, right? Hopefully this d-man can keep people out of the crease, because not allowing bad shots isn’t really that useful. (I could be wrong about the third though, I read it last week somewhere)

From what the Dallas fans are saying, he’s got size for sure but not exactly a hitter. Plus he’s having turnover problems this year — so he’ll fit right in? He looks like a good pick-up, but we probably gave up too much in a 2nd and a 3rd.

This seems like a non-knee jerk trade, but it also makes me feel that the knee jerk one is right around the corner.
I wasn't even a year old but I stayed up to be outside the Vet with my Dad and Mom when the Phillies won the World Series 1980.
Yeah, as much as I love having management that is wiling to do what it takes to win I’d much rather ride this season out with a few minor tweaks than do something big. These young players will only improve next year. I don’t think that many people were expecting us to win the cup this year, our excellent play early kinda boosted our expectations. Let’s just make it through this season and build through free agency over the summer.

I am with you on that. Small fixes that could have a big impact might be all we need. I would love the Cup, but if selling the farm for it and the possibility of coming up short is worse.

Yeah, we probably thought the GT would be better, but I really do think the system has been tough on Bryz and the rookie D corps, not to mention a host of other things (conditioning, injuries, what-have-you).
A tie may be like kissing your sister, but it's better than getting screwed by a skills competition.
Yeah guys it’s fun being angry but seriously, calm down it’s only the 1st.

Bright side
Ville Leino is on pace to potentially not hit 20 points this season
Simon Gagne AND Mike Richards may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home but, at the end of the day, they will both always be Philadelphia Flyers.
One day Sean Couturier will win the Conn Smythe. You heard it here first.

Well if the the new guy looks like the rest when he comes, I am going to go wish a problem with the system.

Strange conference this year. The Atlantic is just teeing off on the other divisions. Except the Islanders, of course. They’re just awful.
Columbus won that one in record time.

Got hit with something in the pre-game skate.

Words can not describe how enraging it is seeing kids on phones at games. Grew up poor just outside Philly, then moved a thousand miles away, so 28 years later, I’ve yet to see a Flyers game live. I just want to reach through the screen, grab them by the neck, and scream “APPRECIATE SHIT” at them
Appreciate shit

Also, has anyone given hintzy his prize?
