They're the best offensive team in the game, but it just didn't come together tonight despite a really solid effort from Ilya Bryzgalov in goal. It's after midnight, so we won't spend too much time analyzing this one, but the offensive show that we saw two nights ago in Winnipeg just wasn't there tonight in Edmonton. So the Flyers lost, 2-0.
For me, half the problem is the not-scoring-first thing. That's been the one constant throughout the rough stretch the Flyers have gone through over the last month or so, through all the hit-or-miss goaltending, defense and whatever else has been hit-or-miss for this team lately.
One thing's been constant: The opposition has consistently been scoring that first goal, and when that happens, it obviously alters how you approach the game. You can't expect to succeed when you're playing come-from-behind hockey every. single. night. The Flyers have played with a 1-0 lead just two times since the beginning of February ... oh, and hey, they won both of those games.
Like I said, not gonna spend too much time analyzing, but man ... if this team can ever have all cylinders firing at once, that could be a lot of fun.
