Reece Willcox Update

Not too much to say right now, but I figure as a Cornell fan I should pass along whatever news I get about the 5th round draft pick. The incoming recruits were officially announced recently and Head Coach Mike Schafer had this to say about Willcox:"Reece is very similar to Brendon Nash '09 [who is now in the Habs organization if I remember correctly] in regards to his poise with the puck. He makes great passes coming out of the defensive zone." He was a BCHL all-star with the Merritt Centennials last year, scoring 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) in 105 games. The class also contains US NTDPer Gavin Stoick on the blueline, and defense is an area strength for Cornell, being loaded with NHL draft picks at the position, so Willcox may struggle to find playing time his freshman year. But at 6'4 and 193 pounds he's the kind of big body that Coach Schafer loves, and if he has the kind of skills as a puck moving defenseman that Coach Schafer says he has he could find some time there. Looking at the roster, I'd probably guess that he's looking at 3rd pairing time, but with 8 blue-liners on the roster, I can't be sure exactly where people will fit in. Either way, I'll probably do this about once a month once the Big Red face off against CC in October.
