Flyers vs. Islanders preview: An NHL hockey game tonight, I guess

Al Bello

The Flyers play hockey tonight, if that's a thing you feel you need to concern yourself with.

I'm not gonna lie here: It's pretty damn tough to care about tonight's hockey game. (Heh, how's that for a hook, Internet reader? You really wanna read this game preview now, dont ya?!) I'm resigned to the fact that the Flyers are not going to be a playoff team, and truly, I just want this season to end and I want to move on to the offseason.

Of course, I want the Flyers to win tonight. I'm going to watch the hockey game. But if they lose ... eh, not the end of the world. And I won't lie and say there's not a small part in me that hope they lose because Seth Jones or whatever. It's just an awkward time to be a Flyers fan and to have to watch Flyers games, tonight included.

Erik Gustafsson will return to the lineup tonight with Andrej Meszaros out and Nicklas Grossmann likely still out as well. That gives the Flyers a top-six of Kimmo Timonen, Luke Schenn, Braydon Coburn, Gustafsson, Andreas Lilja and Kurtis Foster. Hockey is really fun this year, guys.

It's just the second game of the year against the Islanders, and we all remember the 7-0 win on Long Island back on President's Day when the 2013 hockey season didn't totally suck. As cooked as the Flyers are right now, a repeat performance of that would be pretty fun.

The best news is perhaps that like the Flyers, New York has yet to win three games in a row all season. They've won two straight heading into tonight's game, so I guess this is pretty much locked in as a win. Go Flyers.
