Flyers @ Sharks Scoring Chance Summary

Total Chances: 14 to 10 Flyers

Even Strength Chances: 13 to 7 Flyers

One the most complete 5v5 games we've seen from the Flyers this season. Nearly every player posted positive chance and shot differentials. The Sharks came out strong and won the first period but the last 40 minutes was all Flyers. They went on a 10 to 2 run at even strength and scored 4 goals.

Forwards(Even Strength):

  • 1st Line(Hartnell +3, Giroux +3, Voracek +3) A
  • 2nd Line(Lecavalier +2, B.Schenn -1, Simmonds -1) C+
  • 3rd Line(Read 0, Couturier +3, Downie +3) A
  • 4th Line(Raffl +1, Hall +1, Rinaldo +1) B

A balanced scoring effort from all 4 lines. Everyone was involved in a handful of scoring chances. Couturier's line dominated possession, controlling north of 70% of shot attempts. Brayden Schenn was actually the Flyers most offensively creative forward and was directly involved in 4 scoring chances. But his line struggled defensively and ended up yielding just as many chances against. G's line continues to shine offensively since the addition of Hartnell.

Defense(Even Strength):

  • 1st Pair(Coburn +1, Grossmann +2) B
  • 2nd Pair(Meszaros +1, Streit +1) B
  • 3rd Pair(Gustafsson +3, L.Schenn +4) A

Like the forwards, the defense put in a strong all around effort. Erik Gustafsson has been awesome of late and is really picking up the play of the 3rd pair. Gus was directly involved in 2 scoring chances and was noticeable jumping up into the offensive zone. Give this kid more ice time! Mez and Streit we're strong offensively but struggled to prevent chances against. Not surprising considering their reputation as average defenders. Coburn and Grossmann we're just the best CorsiFor% defenders on the entire team. Never expected to see that this season.

Special Teams:

  • Powerplay A, 2.6 minutes of ice time, 1 shot, 1 scoring chance, 1 goal.
  • Penalty Kill B, 9.3 minutes of ice time, 8 shots against, 3 scoring chances against, 1 goal against.

Overall Team Performance: A

Almost nothing for me to complain about with this performance. It was a great game against a very tough Western conference opponent. The Flyers weakness this season has always been 5v5 play but they dominated at even strength. I'm hoping Gus's recent performances will convince the coaching staff to keep him in the line-up for good. He makes the defense much more palatable.
