Game 60: Sharks @ Flyers Chance Summary

Total Chances: 24 to 14 Sharks

Even Strength Chances: 16 to 9 Sharks

As you probably already guessed, this is going to be ugly. The Sharks dominated every facet of this game. The score was lopsided, the stats are even more lopsided. Some truly awful defensive performances highlight the Flyers return to NHL action.

Forwards(Even Strength):

  • 1st Line(Hartnell -6, Giroux -4, Voracek -1) F
  • 2nd Line(Lecavalier -2, B.Schenn +1, Simmonds -2) C
  • 3rd Line(Read +1, Couturier -4, Downie -1) D
  • 4th Line(Raffl 0, Hall -3, Rinaldo 0) C

Tough to fairly evaluate everyone with some wildly divergent numbers amongst linemates. B.Schenn, Voracek, Read, and Michael Raffl all turned in solid enough individual performances to separate themselves from the pack. The 1st line got ripped apart defensively. Eeessh.

Defense(Even Strength):

  • 1st Pair(Coburn 0, Grossmann 0) C
  • 2nd Pair(Meszaros +2, Streit 0) B
  • 3rd Pair(Gustafsson -9, L.Schenn -7) FFFFFFFFFFAAAAAILLLLL

Gus and L.Schenn take home the epic fail award for today. It wasn't even a close. Its probably my fault, I jinxed Gustafsson by recommending he get more ice time before the break. On a positive note, the Coburn and Grossmann paring was surprisingly strong. Like, best shot differentials on the entire team strong. And Mez was one of only two Flyers to post a positive chance differential.

Special Teams:

  • Powerplay D, 7.7 minutes of ice time, 3 shots, 5 scoring chances for, 5 scoring chances against!! 0 goals for, 1 goal against.
  • Penalty Kill B-, 6.2 minutes of ice time, 4 shots against, 3 scoring chances against, 1 goals against

The Flyers penalty kill gave up less chances against Mason than the powerplay. Enough said.

Overall Team Performance: D

Not a strong return for the Flyers. Problems all over the line-up and some straight up atrocious nights from the 3rd d-pair and the 1st line. Tough to find anything positive to talk about outside of a relatively decent 1st period. The final 40 minutes was the stuff of nightmares. Almost as bad as the blowout against Boston.

The Numbers:

The short hand is going to look a little different for this one. Our friends at Fear the Fin did the chance tracking for this game and I simply deferred to their numbers rather than redoing all of the work.
