FanPost now what?

Well Game 7 didn't exactly go as planned did it? I won't get into it because see...I'm not into self torture... BUT hey... If you are read all about it right HERE. Yep, It's over kids. Time to go home. Question is, what's next?

In short, It could be a busy off season for the Flyers.

1) Defense - Let's get right to it. To say the Defense is a bit shaky is an understatement. The Flyers' best D-Man Kimmo Timonen may retire, Mark Striet isn't getting any younger, Luke Schenn hasn't panned out, Andy MacDonald is a Corsi nightmare and Braydon Coburn was pretty bad in the playoffs. Ya...not good.

There is some hope though:

Robert Hagg, Samuel Morin and Shane Gostisbehere. These three are the future and I can see maybe two of them cracking the lineup next season.

Not to mention Erik Gustafsson proving he's ready.

Assuming Kimmo retires, That would open up an extra 6 million. One has to assume the Flyers would use that to try and acquire a steady replacement. The UFA D-Man pool is actually pretty shallow this year so trading for one may be a better option (NOT SHEA WEBER...get over it) which brings me to my next point....

Luke Schenn. It may be time to part ways. It's just not panning out. Yes I know his value has dropped dramatically but I can see him part of a package deal with umm...I don't know...let's just say his initials start with B.S (irony) Obviously it'll take more than that to land a decent D-Man but it's a start.

2) The Vinny dilemma - To keep or buyout Vinny Lecavalier. He's shown potential in spots... unfortunately his foot speed and lack of Defensive awareness has been more consistent. He's been demoted to the 4th line and only played 30 seconds of the final period of game 7. Not Good. He's around for another 4 years at 4.5 million per season. Yikes.

Even with all that, it's still not worth a buyout. The Flyers would be stuck with a cap hit of 1 million or more until 2021-2022. Not to mention the 3 million dollar cap hit between 2015 - 2017. The Flyers have to ride this one out and possibly put him back at 2C because.....

3) The other Schenn - The Flyers resigned pretty much every top forward they have to contracts this year...except for Brayden Schenn. He's actually had his most productive season this year but has looked absolutely lost at times and dealt with some huge scoring droughts. He still has potential though which is why I don't see the Flyers hanging on to him.

The Schenn brothers and a Pick (Maybe 2) could be enough to land a top 4 D-Man. NOT a franchise D-Man but a decent one nonetheless.

4) A Sniper for the Giroux line - I'm sorry but the Flyers will not get Thomas Vanek. Not Happening. It's too bad though because a LW with a right hand shot is exactly what the Flyers need for that line. Hartnell had his chance, Vinny can't play LW and Raffl isn't a sniper. Not all is lost though...

Enter Matt Read.

Here's why: Matt Read and the 1st line...

Hey, I'm done and not one mention of finding a new goalie. Refreshing.

Thanks for Reading. Go Flyers.
