The Flyers have invited Latvian defender Ralfs Freibergs to their annual prospect camp which runs before main training camp this fall. This information comes via Bowling Green State's Twitter feed which also states forward Mark Cooper will be headed to Wings prospect camp.

Freibergs famously tested positive for PEDs of some kind after drug testing at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He and another Latvian player (Pavlovs) were excluded from the games after their loss to Canada (which was actually when they were eliminated from the tournament anyway).
Aside from the positive PED test; Freibergs (23-years-old) has been improving every year advancing through the NAHL - USHL - NCAA to finally get a taste of what it takes to get to the NHL. He ran BGSU's powerplay from the back-end this past season and did a pretty good job. He looks like a pretty prototypical offensive guy at 5'11" and 190 lbs he'll need to prove he can handle bigger NHL-sized forwards.
If he's willing to turn pro he could very well be on his way to a Phantoms roster spot in LeHigh Valley. The Flyers' scouts philosophy appears to be to try and find useful depth Europeans who are relative unknowns in North America (Michael Raffl, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare) and so far I for one have no problem with that. Especially if they aren't wasting picks and contracts on guys like Jay Rosehill.
