Monday Morning Fly By: On to July 1!

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes...

*The 2014 Draft came and went over the weekend and was, by all accounts, a rousing success. The BSH guys have the lowdown on all six of Ron Hextall's picks and there doesn't seem to be a Tyrell Goulbourne dud in the bunch. [BSH]

*It was clear from the start that Flyers fans were determined to make this draft...let's just say 'awesome.' Because it was. [SB Nation] [CSN Philly]

*A look at what the Flyers' draft picks have in common. [Flyers]

*After the draft, Hextall spoke with the media about what he sees for the future of his team. [Flyers]

*Turns out the Flyers' first pick, Travis Sanheim, isn't a huge Schenn fan. Awwwkkkkwaaaaard. [BSH]

*Speaking of, Sanheim had his first experience with the Philadelphia hockey media after being selected. [Flyers]

*Hexy was very, very close to securing the number one pick in a trade with Florida. [Courier-Post]

*The team's focus on building a defense from the ground up was apparent in this year's picks. [Inquirer] [CSN Philly]

*As with most recent years, draft day was without a blockbuster trade to speak of, but there were a couple moves worth noting: the Penguins sent James Neal to Nashville and for some reason the Maple Leafs traded Carl Gunnarsson to the Blues for Roman Polak.

*The bigger story is the trades that didn't happen. [SB Nation]

*The Sabres have bought out Christian Ehrhoff. Hexysoon.gif please. [Die By The Blade]

*And the Pathers have bought out Ed Jovanovski. No, Hexy. No. [Litter Box Cats]

*The NHL Board of Governors is considering tweaking the draft lottery. [ProHockeyTalk]

*A requisite list of draft day winners and losers. [The Hockey News]

*And finally, the ten best prospect names and terrible rookie photos from this year's draft, courtesy of Puck Daddy.

**Late addition: Steve Yzerman was a busy man last night, acquiring Sam Gagner from the Oilers for Teddy Purcell and then shipping Gagner and B.J. Crombeen to the Coyotes for picks.
