Advanced Stats...
Hello everyone, I have been a member since '09, but rarely post because I never have anything relevant to add to the conversation (but I follow the site avidly). I follow the advanced statistics somewhat and I have had a nagging question in my mind that I have not seen answered by any of the stats yet. I was wondering if a play-making stat could be developed to measure a player's passing ability. The way I have imagined it is to correlate passes to shots or quality chances. If this has already been developed I apologize, but if not I was wondering if someone could do a prototype analysis of one of the Flyers games to see how it would work. Thanks! Edit: I believe this stat would be useful for projections on a players ability regardless of his linemates. For example, Couturier has had poor linemates for the duration of the year, and thus he should not be expected to put up a large amount of assists. This could measure how well he does at setting people up regardless of what they do once he makes a good play.
missing gagne
I just realized how much I miss watching Gagne when I saw his shortie. Man he was one hell of a player. Anyone else really miss watching him night after night?
Flyers Alumni Game
I know there was a list I found a few days ago but anyone have the list of the players confirmed or not confirmed for the game? Also any word on goalies?
WTF!! Kate Smith in New York
Kate Smith's version of God Bless America played during 7th inning stretch of Yankees vs Rays game today. How dare they!
Comment on Rinaldo/Sestito
Can we stop talking about Rinaldo and Sestito in the light? Rinaldo is 5'11/180 lbs, Sestito is 6'5/228. Rinaldo is a high energy body smasher, Sestito is an enforcer with a net front presence and decent enough speed/hands that he could be considered a power forward. They have different roles, it's like comparing Carcillo and Shelley (except I'd say that Rinaldo/Sestito are both more valuable). Sestito is more worth it to the Flyers next year, but Rinaldo was not a liability in the little amount of ice time he had. Had to get that mini rant off my chest, let's go Flyers (and Phantoms!)
Matt Read - The Man
Matt Read: 8 points in 7 professional games. Playing in all scenarios with our top scorers. I can't say it enough -- this guy is the real deal.
Matt Walker
I think I just realized why Matt Walker hasn't been waived. I was browsing around capgeek.com and came to the conclusion that because SOD only has a one year contract, that they organization plans the replace him with Walker. Anyone else on this train of thought?
Saturday's afternoon game against the Devs.
Got tickets for x-mas. Anyone else going and want to share a brew at the game?
WJC?
Does anyone know if the Flyers have any prospects in WJC this year? I'm curious to see what might be on the ice for us in the future. Thanks
