"Riopel, I’m not sure. I think that there will be lots of discussion with his agent as to what’s going to go on with his contract. And Johan, certainly has been the MVP of the team and done all that has been asked. I think we’re in a unique situation with our goaltending. It’s obviously been a big problem in the organization. And injuries have hurt us, to Emery and then to Leighton. But to have 10 goalies, and six goalies up there, that’s something that just happened. Circumstances dictated, especially circumstances above is what dictated it.
"So we have one goalie under contract for next year, Brian Boucher. So there’s lots of talks about it, there’s going to be lots of attention paid to it, to getting a top-notch goaltender, to developing one, to having a little more solid depth than we had this this year. They’re (Riopel and Backlund) definitely in the hunt and in the running to be in the organization and be back if things can be worked out. It’s going to be, it’s wide-open. We signed (Brian) Stewart, so we have two goalies under contract for next year. There’s going to be three or four more goalies added to the organization. How or what, that’s a big factor for the organization, a big decision, a big development to be straightened away."
"I guess when [the demotion] first happened I felt a little [upset] at the situation. You almost want to put blame on someone or just get [mad] at certain individuals, but I came to realize that it’s now how I should be handling it. In reality, I should have played better, if you will. You have to play good enough so that they can’t get rid of you. So it was a tough situation, but you kind of have to make the most out of it. I went down and I was still playing great hockey in the American Hockey League. Obviously that’s not where I want to be. I want to play in the NHL. That was the bottom line, and I feel like I can help any team. So I’m really excited to get this opportunity. There was a situation with Philadelphia, but I’ve been [there] for six years, going on seven, and I’ve loved every minute of it. But I’m now looking forward to my opportunity in L.A."
