The Flyers have called up goalie Carter Hutton, freshly signed from UMass-Lowell, to replace the injured Johan Backlund on the Flyers' roster. Hutton was signed last week by the Flyers, straight from college. Hutton, 24, played his college hockey at the University of Massachusetts Lowell of Hockey East. The Ontario native lead Hockey East in goals-against average (2.04), save percentage (0.928) and shutouts (4) last season. He posted a 13-12-2 record in 27 games played. Hutton completed his four-year career at UMass-Lowell as the school's all-time leader in shutouts (10) and goals-against average (2.33) and is tied for the career lead in save percentage (0.913)
-- Daily News Flyers beat writer Frank Seravalli Probably fair to assume that Hutton was brought up over Duchesne so the Phantoms would still have a half-decent goalie. Or maybe Paul Holmgren needs a "Carter" on the active roster to sleep at night.
