Total domination: Briere, Simmonds, Schenn get going in 7-1 romp of Leafs

If you'd like to understand what complete and utter domination is in the sport of ice hockey, all you have to do is take a look at tonight's game between the Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers outclassed the Leafs in literally every possible way imaginable en route to a 7-1 victory.

The line of Danny Briere, Wayne Simmonds and The Better Schenn Brother dominated the evening. Briere had four assists, Brayden Schenn had two goals and Simmonds two goals and an assist as the unit finally seemed to click on the scoreboard. Eric Wellwood connected with Matt Read for a beautiful goal in the third period, Read scored one of his own while shorthanded in the second period, and Jakub Voracek added the other Philadelphia tally.

Sergei Bobrovsky only made 16 saves to earn the victory. The Leafs were never able to generate much offensive pressure at any stage of the game -- some credit goes to the Flyers for that, but most of it goes to Toronto for being an absolutely awful hockey team. Man, they were bad.

We expected the Flyers to win this game. The Leafs are falling apart, just waiting until their season of sudden agony comes to a halt. Oh, and their starting goalie fell to an injury during warmups, had to be helped off the ice, and an AHLer made his NHL debut. Sounds pretty Leaf-y.

The orange and black, meanwhile, are in a playoff race, and with the win tonight and a Pittsburgh loss moved just two points behind the Penguins in the division and conference races. Despite sitting back in the race, with two games against the Pens remaining on the schedule, the Flyers control their own destiny in the chase for home-ice advantage in the first-round.

1. How does Sergei Bobrovsky look in his return to action? Aside from that nap he took for 55 minutes of the game, pretty good.
2. What about Marc-Andre Bourdon (and the defense on the whole, for that matter)? What's defense? Did the Flyers need that tonight? I thought they had five forwards out there all game ...
3. How bad are the Leafs? Pretty damn bad.
4. Have an odd hunch that the top line gets going tonight. Like, big time. Is that correct? Actually, no. Jagr had three assists, Hartnell had zero points. Giroux had zero points. On a night with seven goals for the good guys, this hunch was pretty friggin awful.
