Andrej Meszaros out indefinitely with Achilles injury

The Philadelphia Flyers announced this morning that Andrej Meszaros will be out indefinitely after going under the knife to repair a torn Achilles. The injury was suffered during summer workouts in Europe and the surgery took place Tuesday morning at Jefferson Hospital.

It's likely too early to say when Meszaros could return to the lineup, but recovery from this type of surgery for an elite athlete usually takes around six months. Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard took around eight months to recover and return from his Achilles injury but he suffered with an infection that set back his rehab.

We've talked at length this summer about the clear problems the Flyers already have on defense. Improved play in a larger role for Meszaros was one of the potential solutions to at least some of the Flyers issues on defense, and now they're faced with the possibility of missing him for a huge chunk of the season -- if not the whole thing. This is awful.
