Flyers vs. Jets recap: Power play leads Philly to comeback win

It didn't look good early, and it didn't look good more than midway through today's game at the Wells Fargo Center, but the Flyers used three power play goals to come-from-behind and take a 5-3 win from the Winnipeg Jets.

It's a much-needed victory for a team trying to use this five-game homestand as a tool to finally boost over the .500 mark and into legitimate playoff contention. Let's get to the bullet points:

* It's really great to see the power play perform like it did today. Given the way they started the season on the PP, it's remarkable to realize they're now above 20 percent and in the top 10 in the league. In their wins this season, the Flyers PP is 13-for-38. In their losses, it is 4-for-44. Special teams be important.

* The Flyers were completely dominated in the first 10 minutes of the game, and Winnipeg took the 1-0 lead and a 12-1 shots advantage to show for it. But they did a nice job recovering from the early deficit and outshot the Jets 16-0 in the final 9:47 of the first period.

* Scott Hartnell returned today. He played on the top line and didn't really appear to have lost a step. He did play only 15 minutes and didn't see much special teams time, but he came back early from injury and that's not surprising. Just good to have him back in the lineup.

* Brayden Schenn opened the scoring for the Flyers, finding a loose puck at the backdoor and pushing it past Ondrej Pavelec. But on Winnipeg's second goal, Schenn had an ugly giveaway in which he was pick-pocketed by Blake Wheeler at the blue line. He'd redeem himself later.

* Mike Knuble, Danny Briere and Tye McGinn played on a line together, and for all intents and purposes it may have been the fourth line. They all played less than nine minutes.

* When Alexander Burmistrov tipped a puck past Ilya Bryzgalov more then halfway through the second, it seemed like this one wasn't going to go our way. But on three of their next four shifts, the Flyers controlled possession and generated several scoring chances. It ultimately led to a Flyers power play, and then a 5-on-3, and that's when the comeback began.

* Claude Giroux's goal, which made the score 3-2, made me make inappropriate noises.. That shot. Man.

* The Flyers didn't tie the score until six minutes into the third, but of course it was Jake Voracek who made it happen. Schenn indeed redeemed himself with a great finish, but Voracek's pass also made me make inappropriate noises. Voracek had three points today and has 12 points in his last five games. 12 points in five games!

* Wayne Simmonds had his second Gordie Howe hat trick of the week, because he's the shit. His goal was the one that finally put the Flyers ahead for good,

* Zac Rinaldo had an empty net goal today and has two goals in the last week (ish) because hockey is funny and stuff.
