Tom Sestito is no longer a member of the Flyers organization. A day after being placed on waivers by the team, the Vancouver Canucks have claimed him. Just like that, he's gone. TSN reported the news.
Sestito had several chances during his time with the Flyers to stick at the NHL level since he was acquired at the 2011 trade deadline. He seemingly had the leg up during training camp that year and was in the running for a regular roster spot, but a bad suspension during the preseason forced him out of the lineup, and Zac Rinaldo took the opportunity and became an everyday NHL player instead.
Sestito found himself back in Philadelphia on occasion over the last two seasons, but he only appeared in 21 games total with the Flyers. There's no doubt he has some skill, but he never truly earned the opportunity to remain a consistent figure in the Philadelphia lineup. Perhaps he'll get a bigger opportunity in Vancouver.
Michael Leighton, who was also placed on waivers with Sestito Thursday, has cleared and will almost certainly be assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms.
