Monday Morning: Remember winning? So long ago...

Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes...

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

*The Flyers did not have what you'd call a "good" weekend. Friday night the Flyers played the lowly Carolina Hurricanes and Claude Giroux almost died. And the Flyers also lost the hockey game. It was bad. Then, on Saturday, the Flyers played the New Jersey Devils and lost that game handily to bring this crapfest of a road trip to an end. Hooray.

*If you're interested in abusing yourself by looking at the numbers for this weekend's games, check out the stats for the Hurricanes game here and the Devils game here.

*Claude Giroux's savior? Kevlar. Thanks, DuPont company! [BSH]

*Vincent Lecavalier is playing his best hockey of the season despite the huge flaming piles of garbage skating around him lately. It's weird. [Flyers]

*Vinny's been part of the most excellent fourth line, which is also being sparked by Chris VandeVelde. [Inquirer]

*Steve Mason thinks his team is letting down coach Craig Berube. [CSN Philly]

*Rumor has it that the Flyers and Nick Schultz are talking contract extension. Meltzer has thoughts. [Hockeybuzz]

*Over the weekend, the Flyers broke a stupid rule about traveling over the Christmas holiday and were subsequently fined. Really, really, stupid rule. [BSH]

*Is change inevitable for this Flyers team? [Pattison Ave]

*Hockey Canada is determined to figure out why no one is going to World Juniors games in Montreal. [ProHockeyTalk]

*Five Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons have been the first six players named to the NHL All Star game. Many are crediting Girgensons' vote-getting success to passionate Latvian hockey fans but clearly he got votes because his name is AWESOME. []

*A look at a different Winter Classic across the pond. [The Color of Hockey]

*Some sad news over the weekend as Capgeek ceased operations due to the health of the site's owner. [Puck Daddy]

*And finally, one man, one car, and every NHL & AHL arena in one year. This is so cool. [The Hockey News]
