Flyers vs. Rangers: Preview, lineups, time, how to watch Monday's preseason game

New, comments

The Flyers are in NYC to take on the Rangers.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

With just a few more cuts to go before the opening night roster is set, the Philadelphia Flyers will head to New York City to take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden in preseason action on Monday night.

Center Sean Couturier -- slated to be the team's No. 2 center this year -- is out with an injury, which sure makes things a little bit interesting for those fighting for jobs. Scott Laughton is one guy on the bubble who could benefit from Couturier's injury, should it be something that lingers through the start of the season, while wingers Chris Porter and Colin McDonald are still in camp hoping for a shot as well.

Those latter two will not play Monday night. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Michael Del Zotto and Evgeny Medvedev join them as scratches.

Sam Gagner, who's played the majority of camp at left wing -- a position the Flyers' are pretty dang deficient in -- will take a run at center on Monday night, slotting in between Wayne Simmonds on his right and R.J. Umberger on his left.

Here are the full Flyers' lines for the night. Steve Mason will start in goal.

  1. Raffl - Giroux - Voracek
  2. Umberger - Gagner - Simmonds
  3. Read - Lecavalier - Schenn
  4. VandeVelde - Laughton - White
  1. Schultz- Streit
  2. MacDonald - Gudas
  3. Manning - Schenn

The puck drops at 7 p.m. Tonight's game is not on local television in Philadelphia area, but NHL Network will pick up the Rangers broadcast. (It might not be available in the Philadelphia area -- we will try to get clarification on this.) If you're in the NYC area, you can watch in MSG. 97.5 The Fanatic has the radio broadcast for you.
