For the second Monday in a row, Philadelphia is home to the NHL’s first star of the week. Last Monday, the honor went to Steve Mason and today, thanks to back-to-back four-point games, Jakub Voracek has earned the honor.
In total, Jake had nine points — three goals and six assists — in four games last week. He had the overtime winner against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, had a goal and three assists in the 6-5 win over Edmonton, and did the same in Saturday’s win over Dallas. According to the NHL, Voracek is the first Flyer with four or more points in consecutive team games since Eric Lindros completed the feat in back-to-backs on December 31, 1997 and January 3, 1998.
This week, all three starts of the week were in the Metropolitan Division. Rangers goalie Antti Raanta, who went 3-0-0 with a .984 save percentage this week, was named second star. Former Flyer and current Columbus Blue Jacket Sam Gagner was named the third star of the week, finishing with three goals and three assists in six games.
The top five teams in the Metropolitan Division -- Pittsburgh, the Rangers, Philadelphia, Columbus and Washington -- finished the week with a combined 17-1-0 record.
