Wayne Simmonds holding fifth annual charity ball hockey tournament

Wayne's Road Hockey Warriors is set to take place this Saturday, July 9, in his hometown of Scarborough.

Wayne Simmonds hails from Scarborough, a part of the Greater Toronto Area. He isn't one to forget his roots, and that's why every year for the past five years, he holds a ball hockey tournament in conjunction with his charity, Wayne's Road Hockey Warriors. This year's edition is coming up a mere three days away on Saturday, July 9.

The charity is focused on helping kids in Scarborough get the chance to play hockey when they might not have it otherwise, particularly due to the rising costs of the game. Simmonds' charity has helped get these kids equipment - and via the charity game, has given them the chance to meet NHLers during the event.

Via Inside Toronto, Simmonds' fellow Flyers Steve Mason and Brayden Schenn will be there, along with a handful of other players from across several teams - including high-level women's players - many of whom also hail from the GTA.

It's a day-long event, so there's a lot going on if you end up in the Scarborough area. It even looks like there's going to be some exclusive merchandise:
