* The Flyers played hockey games last night! Two of them! They lost both and didn’t score in either one! Who cares! Hockey’s back! The first game was in Brooklyn, where the Flyers lost 3-0 to the Islanders. Have some recaps! [NHL.com] [Lighthouse Hockey]

* And then there was the game in New Jersey, where the Flyers lost by a 2-0 count. But the game wasn’t broadcast anywhere and it was in New Jersey, which prompts the question: if no one watches a preseason hockey game, did it really happen? Apparently it did, so here are some recaps of that game as well: [CSN Philly] [Philly.com]

* That second game featured a lot of Ivan Provorov — over 28 minutes of him, to be exact: [CPSJ]

* Speaking of, here’s one argument as to why Ivan Provorov must make the Flyers roster. (Stay tuned for more on this very subject later today!) [Sons of Penn]

* We reached the sixth spot on our 25 Under 25 on Monday, as we took a look at Scott Laughton: [BSH]

* Elsewhere in hockeyland, the World Cup best-of-3 finals begin today! Here’s a preview via Down Goes Brown: [Vice]

* And here are some suggestions on how to improve the World Cup of Hockey the next time around: [THN]

* And, while we’re at it, one more piece on how everything went wrong for Team USA at said World Cup: [Eyes On The Prize]

* Jacob Trouba requested a trade this past weekend. How good is Jacob Trouba? Turns out, he’s pretty good! [TSN]

* Steve Ott injured a rookie on his own team with a hard hit in a training camp practice yesterday, and I’m not sure I could write a more Steve Ott sentence than that one: [Winging It In Motown]

* In case you were looking to talk about someone even less likable than Steve Ott, though, Brad Marchand signed an eight-year contract extension yesterday: [Stanley Cup Of Chowder]

* Finally, the Oilers introduced a new mascot yesterday named Hunter and BOY OH BOY did the Internet love it: [CBS]
