Jordan Weal recalled from Lehigh Valley to replace injured Travis Konecny

Weal is getting his much-deserved NHL shot thanks to an injury.

Jordan Weal is getting his NHL chance. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward has been recalled from the American Hockey League to replace the injured Travis Konecny, who has been placed on injured reserve by the Flyers.

It’s expected that Konecny will be out at least four weeks, perhaps up to six, with a lower-body injury.

Weal has 15 goals and 32 assists in 43 games this season, good for the second-most points in the AHL this season. He’s a skilled forward who should be able to fill in for Konecny nicely given his scoring prowess, but the concern is that the Flyers will choose to use him in a bottom-six role instead, thus limiting his effectiveness. We will find out Saturday afternoon as the Flyers host the San Jose Sharks.

Weal played just four games for the Flyers last season after being acquired in the trade that sent Luke Schenn and Vincent Lecavalier to the Los Angeles Kings.
