Checking out the competition: Carolina Hurricanes

Sure we can talk about the Hurricanes, but how does this affect the Leafs?

After a very annoying third period collapse against the Panthers Saturday night, the Flyers’ road trip continues with a New Year’s Eve stop in Raleigh to take on the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes are 3-7 in their last ten and are having special teams troubles to rival the Flyers’ own, making this the perfect opportunity for the Flyers to rebound. We shall see. We talked with Brian LeBlanc of Canes’ Country to preview tonight’s game, and here’s what was on the table:

  • Our old pal Rod The Bod’s performance in his first head coaching gig
  • What can happen when a team struggles to find its identity
  • The Hurricanes continued insistence on defying the logic of advanced stats
  • On what happens when a hockey player gets too far inside his own head

Tonight’s game is an early one, at 6PM, giving you folks with friends plenty of time to enjoy the hockey before heading out to your New Year’s festivities. Have a happy holiday, everyone!

*Quick note: the audio gets a little choppy towards the end, but it quickly clears up. Sorry for the quality issue.
