New, comments

Meanwhile, Carter Hart is breaking records this week.

Kate Frese/SB Nation

Phantoms update:

2/7 - 4-3 WIN
2/9 - 5-1 WIN
2/10 - 5-3 WIN

Philippe Myers (D): 2 GP, 4 shots, 4 PIM
Undrafted Free Agent

Good news and bad news for Myers this week. Bad news? Point-less over his last 5 games and just 1 point in his last 8. He also missed Friday’s game with an undisclosed injury. But the good news! He returned for Saturday’s game and there were no reported issues.

Travis Sanheim (D): 3 GP, 1 goal, 5 assists, 1 shot
2014 1st Round Pick, 17th overall

Clearly this kid needs to keep developing his game. Not sure if he will ever cut it in the NHL.

Mark Friedman (D): 2 GP, 2 shots
2014 3rd Round Pick, 86th overall

No points in his last 18 games. Friedman has zero goals and nine assists in 44 games this season (with 71 shots on net, poor guy).

Mike Vecchione (C): 3 GP, 5 shots, 4 PIM
Undrafted Free Agent

A point-less drought for another Phantoms rookie. Vecchione is scoreless in his last five games and sits at 28 points (11 G, 17 A) in 44 games.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel (RW): 3 GP, 1 goal, 2 assists, 9 shots, 2 PIM
2014 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall

All reports back up NAK’s stellar second full season with the Phantoms. He is up to 32 points (14 G, 18 A) in 50 games. In his last eight games he has three goals and five assists.

Oskar Lindblom (LW): 3 GP, 1 assist, 6 shots
2014 5th Round Pick, 138th overall

Lindblom has slowed down a bit since his monster December. He has just six points in the new year (15 GP), but overall has 31 (13 G, 18 A) in 50 games.

Mikhail Vorobyev (C): 3 GP, 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 shots
2015 4th Round Pick, 104th overall

Vorobyev picks up his first goal since December 9, his fifth of the season. The Russian rookie has 15 points in 34 games.

Cole Bardreau (C): 3 GP, 1 goal, 3 assists, 4 shots, 6 PIM
Undrafted Free Agent

It’s really hard to ignore the tear Bardreau has been on since returning to the lineup in January. He’s been a near point-per-game player this season with 14 points (4 G, 10 A) in 19 games. It wouldn’t be surprising, were a bottom 6 forward for the Flyers were to go down with an injury, to see Bardreau get a call-up.

Alex Lyon (G): 2 GP, 4 GA, 51 saves
Undrafted Free Agent

A forgettable season is finally turning around for Lyon, who’s SV% is now up to .911. It was hovering around .900 at the beginning of December.

Phantoms Notes: Danick Martel (RW) and Samuel Morin (D) remain out with injuries.

Notable Canadian junior performers this week:

Connor Bunnaman (C/LW), Kitchener Rangers (OHL)
2016 4th Round Pick, 109th overall

  • 2/6 - 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots, 2 PIM, 6 for 12 FOW
  • 2/10 - 1 goal, 2 shots, 4 for 8 FOW

He might not surpass his career-highs from last season (64 GP, 37 G, 52 PTS), but weeks like this will certainly help drive up those numbers. The Bun-Man has 41 points (21 G, 20 A) in 51 games. Here was his 21st goal.

Anthony Salinitri (LW/C), Sarnia Sting (OHL)
2016 6th Round Pick, 172nd overall

  • 2/10 - 1 goal, 4 shots, 6 for 9 FOW
  • 2/11 - 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 shot, 2 for 3 FOW

At 24 goals, he is four away from his career-high of 28 from last season.

Morgan Frost (C), Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL)
2017 1st Round Pick, 27th overall

  • 2/8 - 2 goals, 4 shots, 2 PIM, 7 for 16 FOW
  • 2/10 - 1 assist, 1 shot, 9 for 13 FOW
  • 2/11 - 0 shots, 4 PIM, 7 for 17 FOW

Fun Frost Facts: Morgan has had a multi-point game in 30 of his 53 games this season. He has only failed to record a point in nine games. His 88 points (32 G, 56 A) leads the OHL, as do his 70 primary points. Check out one of those goals here. #FrostHart2020

Isaac Ratcliffe (LW), Guelph Storm (OHL)
2017 2nd Round Pick, 35th overall

  • 2/8 - 5 shots
  • 2/9 - 1 goal, 6 shots
  • 2/11 - 1 goal, 6 shots

I suppose if you shoot the puck enough it will go in. Ratcliffe has put the puck on net 206 times in 52 games. He has a career-high 31 goals to go along with 18 assists this season. Here is his game-winner from Friday.

Matthew Strome (LW), Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
2017 4th Round Pick, 106th overall

  • 2/8 - 3 shots
  • 2/10 - 1 assist, 2 PIM, 0 for 2 FOW
  • 2/11 - 1 goal, 3 assists, 2 shots, 9 for 13 FOW

That’s one way to break out of a slump. Sunday’s effort was his first 4-point game since the 2017 playoffs and first regular season game since 10/30/16. Strome has 56 points (30 G, 26 A) in 52 games. He needs four more goals to tie his career-high. Here is his snipe from Sunday.

Maksim Sushko (RW), Owen Sound Attack (OHL)
2017 4th Round Pick, 107th overall

  • 2/8 - 2 assists, 3 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/9 - 2 shots

Nothing too exciting from Sushko this week as he remains at 44 points (25 G, 19 A) in 44 games.

Carsen Twarynski (LW), Kelowna Rockets (WHL)
2016 3rd Round Pick, 82nd overall

  • 2/7 - 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots, 2 PIM
  • 2/9 - 2 shots, 2 PIM, 3 for 6 FOW
  • 2/10 - 2 shots, 3 for 6 FOW

Twarynski scored his 34th goal of the season on Wednesday. His previous career-high was 20 goals back in the 2015-16 season.

Carter Hart (G), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2016 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall

  • 2/9 - 2 GA, 30 saves
  • 2/10 - 0 GA, 23 saves
  • 2/11 - DNP

Hart made history with his 26th career WHL shutout. That is tied for the most in WHL history, and Hart has many more games to play before the season is over. He holds a .952 SV% in 29 games.

Pascal Laberge (C), Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)
2016 2nd Round Pick, 36th overall

  • 2/6 - 3 shots, 4 for 5 FOW
  • 2/7 - 2 shots, 5 PIM, 1 for 1 FOW
  • 2/10 - 1 assist, 4 shots, 2 for 7 FOW

Laberge has only 2 points in his last 7 games after a brief scoring surge in January. In 51 games with Quebec and Victoriaville he has 33 points (12 G, 21 A).

German Rubtsov (C), Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL)
2016 1st Round Pick, 22nd overall

  • 2/7 - DNP
  • 2/9 - DNP
  • 2/11 - DNP

That’s 5 games in a row out of the lineup for Rubtsov as he sits out with an undisclosed injury.

Notable European performers this week

Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 2/8 - 1 shot, 14:48 TOI
  • 2/10 - 2 shots, 14:58 TOI

Consistent ice-time remains a very positive thing for the 19-year old defenseman.

David Bernhardt (D), Djurgårdens IF (SHL)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall

  • 2/8 - 1 shot, 13:05 TOI
  • 2/10 - 1 assist, 14:23 TOI

Bernhardt gets his 10th assist of the season and has 11 points in 44 games. The 20-year old Swede has certainly seen his role with the team grow as the season has gone on.

David Kaše (C/W), Mora IK (SHL)
2015 5th Round Pick, 128th overall

  • 2/8 - 2 shots, 2 PIM, 17:16 TOI
  • 2/10 - 2 goals, 1 assist, 2 shot, 16:44 TOI

While they aren’t Oskar Lindblom 2016-17 numbers he is putting up, Kase is certainly holding his own as a 21-year old rookie in the SHL. He has 21 points (8 G, 13 A) in 37 games while missing time with injuries.

Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 2/8 - 1 shot, 17:18 TOI
  • 2/10 - 12:21 TOI

No points for Lycksell this week as the rookie remains at seven points (5 G, 2 A) in 26 SHL games.

Felix Sandström (G), HV71 (SHL)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 70th overall

No games played for Sandström this week, but news is that he was recently acquired by HV71 of the SHL from Brynäs IF.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Toros Neftekamsk (VHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

Toros didn’t have any games this week, but Fedotov hadn’t appeared in the last 7 games anyway despite being dressed.

Kirill Ustimenko (G), MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg (MHL)
2017 3rd Round Pick, 80th overall

  • 2/11 - 1 GA, 39 saves

His .929 SV% in 45 games is 7th best in the MHL. A few of those ahead of him have played under 25 games for what it’s worth. I wouldn’t dismiss calling him a Top 3 MHL goaltender at this point.

Notable NCAA and USHL performers this week:

Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall

With no points this week, Laczynski slips further back in the NCAA scoring race. He’s currently eighth with 37 points (12 G, 25 A) in 30 games.

Cooper Marody (C), University of Michigan
2015 6th Round Pick, 158th overall

  • 2/9 - 3 shots, 10 for 23 FOW
  • 2/10 - 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots, 13 for 19 FOW

Marody scores his 11th goal of the season on Saturday, which is a collegiate career-high for him. He sits further back in the NCAA scoring race at 18th with 34 points in 30 GP.

Brendan Warren (LW), University of Michigan
2015 3rd Round Pick, 81st overall

  • 2/9 - 2 shots, 0 for 1 FOW
  • 2/10 - 0 shots

It’s getting more and more difficult to see why the Coyotes would have used a 3rd round pick on Warren. He has 12 points (7 G, 5 A) in 30 games in his junior season.

Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 2/9 - 1 shot
  • 2/10 - 1 shot, 2 PIM

No points for Kalynuk means he sits at 22 points (3 G, 19 A) in 33 GP.

Terrance Amorosa (D), Clarkson University
2013 5th Round Pick, 132nd overall

The senior has 22 points (6 G, 16 A) in 30 games as he continues to showcase his talents for the Flyers in hopes of an entry-level contract.

Noah Cates (LW), Omaha Lancers (USHL)
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

  • 2/9 - 2 assists, 3 shots
  • 2/10 - 1 shot, 2 PIM

Another solid week for Cates, who now has 30 points (12 G, 18 A) in 39 games.

Matej Tomek (G), Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 90th overall

  • 2/10 - 1 GA, 20 saves

Tomek has been quite good over his last 5 starts, compiling a .926 SV% in that time. Overall on the season he has a much less striking .910.

NCAA Notes: Wade Allison is out for the season with a lower-body injury.
