Despite leading 1-0 after the first period, and holding two-goal leads twice after the midway point of the second, the Philadelphia Flyers dropped a crucial game on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center to the New Jersey Devils. With the victory, the Devils moved within two points of the Flyers, with a game in hand, as the Metropolitan division playoff races gets heated up.
Travis Konecny got the Flyers on the board early with a beautiful goal on the rush, on an even prettier cross-ice, backhand pass through the neutral zone from Claude Giroux to set up the goal. Konecny’s goal was his 14th of the season, and gave him his 20th point in his last 21 games.
Giroux extended his point streak to four games with the assist on Konecny’s first period tally, and kept his own goal-scoring streak alive netting a power play goal late in the second period to give him four goals and eight points over his last four games.
