NHL free agency open thread: Do the Flyers have any more moves in them today?

The Flyers have already made a big splash with the signing of James van Riemsdyk. What else will happen around the league today?

The new NHL league year has officially begun, and with that, free agency will formally begin. If you’re here, you most likely already know that the Flyers already have a big splash in store, as it’s expected that they’ll announce the signing of James van Riemsdyk to a five-year, $35 million contract at some point today.

But that may not be all! After all, the Flyers still have a lot of cap space even after the JVR signing, and Hextall has said he wants to upgrade the team at center and on defense. And even beyond the Flyers, there’s lots to be on the lookout for around the league. When is John Tavares’ decision coming? Is Erik Karlsson getting traded today? Is anyone getting traded today? Are we going to get the chance to laugh about the Penguins signing Jack Johnson? Will the Sixers trade for Kawhi Leonard and sign LeBron James? (Sorry, getting off-track here.)

Feel free to use the comments below to discuss anything and everything that happens today. We’ll have more posts up throughout the day, both pertaining to the JVR signing and any other Flyers-related moves that take place, but here’s your thread to discuss everything else.
