The NHL on NBC schedule was released today, and as usual the Philadelphia Flyers will be on the network quite a bit over the course of the regular season. Throughout the plethora of games NBC and NBCSN will show over the course of the season, the Orange and Black will be on one of the NBC networks for 17 of their 82 regular season games this season.
Games on Wednesday night will remain a key piece of the NBCSN routine, but it will be a little different (improved?) this season. Instead of Rivalry Night, where meetings between the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets were sure to Get The People Going, the network has decided to label it Star Power, where “established stars and young phenoms will take center stage.” The network will also have 17 doubleheaders on Wednesday night this season (the most in the network’s history), with teams that usually don’t get much love on Wednesday nights getting some attention (“widest variety of teams to date” including multiple appearances by Tampa Bay, Colorado, Toronto, Vegas, Edmonton, Nashville, and Winnipeg”) and earlier start times, as the majority of games will start at either 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. The Flyers will only be a part of Wednesday Night Hockey twice this season, as their only games on NBCSN on these nights will be when they host the Bruins on January 16th and when they host the defending Stanley Cup champions Washington Capitals on March 6th.
As for games on NBC, the Flyers will be featured quite a bit. Of the 13 games NBC will air this season, Philly will take part in four. They’ll open up the NHL on NBC schedule by hosting the New York Rangers on Black Friday in the 2018 Discover NHL Thanksgiving Showdown (sure) and close it by hosting the Blueshirts again on March 31st. The Flyers will also be on NBC for their Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at The Linc on February 23rd and when they visit the Caps on March 24th.
Below is the entirety of the games The Good Guys will be playing on either of the NBC networks during the 2018-19 campaign:
