Bovada recently released their conference and divisional odds for the 2018-19 season. The Flyers are... right about where you’d expect them. The Orange and Black have 6/1 odds to win the Metro this season and 12/1 odds to win the Eastern Conference. Philly is tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for third-best odds in the Metro and stand alone with the sixth-best odds to win the conference.
Below are the odds to win the Metro:
Odds to win the 2018-19 Metro Division
|Columbus Blue Jackets||6/1|
|New Jersey Devils||14/1|
|New York Rangers||16/1|
|New York Islanders||18/1|
Not surprisingly, both the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals have clearly better odds than the Flyers to win the divisional title. It also shouldn’t come as a shock that the Blue Jackets are tied with the Flyers, as the teams finished one point apart last season and have both improved their rosters this offseason. The addition of Dougie Hamilton probably boosted the Carolina Hurricanes odds, while regression is expected for the New Jersey Devils, who only provided one player (granted, a pretty good player) that broke 53 points last season.
Looking at the rest of the conference...
Odds to win the 2018-19 Eastern Conference
|Toronto Maple Leafs||15/4|
|Tampa Bay Lightning||4/1|
|Columbus Blue Jackets||14/1|
|New Jersey Devils||22/1|
|New York Rangers||40/1|
|New York Islanders||50/1|
|Detroit Red Wings||100/1|
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning are big favorites to represent the Eastern Conference this season. Considering how well several rookies played for them last season, as well as bringing back a reliable group of veterans, it’s fair to say the Boston Bruins should also have higher odds to win the conference over the Flyers.
Again, this is right about where many of us would slot the Flyers, but it’s nice to see that Bovada feels the same way. However, when the season starts, anything is possible.
