Earlier today the Flyers announced that they had made two more cuts to their training camp roster in Morgan Frost and Isaac Ratcliffe.
Frost, the Flyers’ 2017 first round draft pick, was one of the many forwards eyeing a spot at third line center for this upcoming season, but after a so-so training camp and preseason he has been sent back to Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL.
The other roster move that they made was sending Ratcliffe, a second round pick, back to the OHL as well, where he will report to the Guelph Storm. He came into camp a longshot to make the team but did show great progress from a year ago.
With Flyers’ General Manager Ron Hextall’s recent comments about Frost’s play and Ratcliffe being unlikely to make the team from the get go, neither of these cuts are all too surprising. Each had appeared in one preseason game and neither made a strong impact.
Of the 52 players remaining, it’s notable that camp invite Yegor Zamula has survived another round of cuts. The 6’3” defenseman has been impressive in the preseason and may be on his way to earning an entry level contract. We’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out.
