Earlier today the team’s twitter account posted the following video.
Well, this is interesting... pic.twitter.com/KfMlTJpuxy— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) September 19, 2018
Nothing seems too out of the ordinary at first, just an update on the renovations at the Wells Fargo Center. That is until Flyers’ TV Host Andrea Helfrich brings up the glass wall behind them, then things start to derail. After that we learn that someone or something has been messing with the construction crew by replacing their electrical equipment with hockey gear, and drawing up plays on the new glass wall. Does any of this sound familiar to you? If so, you’re probably remembering how the Lehigh Valley Phantoms revealed their mascot, MeLVin, four years ago.
It began with a 37-second teaser clip that showed their previous (current at the time) mascot Dax walking around and whistling at the new arena’s construction site when something off screen whistles back at him.
Later we get a “lost episode” of “Phantoms TV” with, again, construction workers at the forefront of the scene.
I don’t know about you, but this all seems too similar to us. The same setting and same plot of someone or something lurking around.
So it seems likely that the Flyers will be revealing a mascot soon, but what will it be? The only mascot in team history was Slapshot, back in 1976, and nothing about the Flyers logo really helps us make an educated guess as to what a mascot could be. Maybe Slapshot gets revived, or maybe we get a relative of the Phillie Phanatic, or maybe something new entirely! We’ll just have to wait and see, but this video feels too similar to not mean what we think it means.
