Claude Giroux will represent the Flyers at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game

Captain Claude!

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

In a season full of disappointment and frustration, captain Claude Giroux has been one of the few bright spots, and today the Flyers’ leading scorer was named to the 2019 All-Star Game. This will be Giroux’s second straight season as an all-star and it will be his sixth all-star game of his brilliant career. His first coming in the 2010-11 season, a then breakout season for the Flyers center, with appearances also coming in 2012, 2015, and 2016.

Giroux will most likely be the lone Flyers all-star game representative, unless a Flyer takes the spot of Alex Ovechkin from the Capitals who will not be participating. Given the unlikelihood of that, this will be the third straight season for Giroux as the lone Flyer.

The captain has 44 points in 39 games for the Flyers this season, a whole 14 points ahead of the next closest Flyer in Jakub Voracek at 30 points. The captain hasn’t slowed down from a MVP worthy 102 point season a year ago, and is well on his way to another banner campaign in his age 31 season. He sits 22nd in the league in points which may not seem great, but given the season the Flyers have had it’s still a very impressive total.

It’s been a rough go-around for the Flyers this season, but watching Claude Giroux play at an elite level has been one of the very few positives, and it’s good to see him rewarded for his efforts. Here are the full rosters of the 2019 NHL All-Star Game in San Jose.
