Hockey. Is. Back!
It was a wild night for emotions at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday as the Philadelphia Flyers hosted the New Jersey Devils in their home opener. Wayne Simmonds made his return to Philadelphia after spending seven seasons in orange and black. He was greeted with cheers and a ‘thank you’ video before getting the boos that he asked Flyers fans for earlier in the offseason.
Carter Hart was magnificent in net, making one big save after another. He would go on to record his first career shutout in the process.
The offense was paced by four separate goal scorers - Ivan Provorov got the scoring started with a blast in the first period; Kevin Hayes opened the third period with a power play goal, followed by a Sean Couturier strike just 20 seconds later; and Travis Konecny would put the icing on the cake after getting a turnover right in front of the net to score his third of the season.
The Flyers shutout the Devils 4-0. Their next destination is back on the road to face the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday evening.
